# About me
The name is Kate Lawson, remember you saw me here first before my art became known (hipster). My portfolio is a work in progress. During college and the year after, I could not focus on creating many new pieces, but now that I have a day job I am very much looking forward to developing my skills and working on projects once again. I have always wanted to make meaningful art that is not confined to a classroom or a deadline. Now I have the freedom to challenge myself without the added pressure of a grade. Your picture is lovely. I just felt in the mood last night to look up Snape in a wedding scene (even though it's hard to imagine anyone would be willing to marry the snarky fellow) and I thought your rendition was beautiful.

At Infinitus I saw your "Gran" Longbottom costume and was thinking "How the hell was she able to pack that hat?". It amazes me how cosplayers can pack so much stuff to wear during cons, especially when they play multiple characters.

Augusta started with designing the hat to travel. The hat comes apart. I detailed the construction of it on my live journal. But there is acore base hat, it has a velvro band that secures the cone. There is a second sleeve hatband that goes over the cone, it has velcro to secure the bird part. Each wing is a velcro "clamshell" that holds feather that have sticky velcro on each quill. I am not happy with the bird head. I had two major designs for Augusta's hat if one failed, but both designs came apart. By designing the hat for assembly/disassembly, the hat can be used for other costumes

Ahh, I see. Velcro is so useful. For a hat that huge it would have to be split into multiple parts, or else things would fall off/get damaged easily during transport.
I've only been to one con, Infinitus, but I plan on going to Ascendio next year. I admire all the cosplayers,especially those with witty/original costumes. I dress up as "Hermione", but really it's only the robes, the hair is just naturally like hers in the books. Most of the attention is drawn to my companion though, I have a black lab guide dog, and at Infinitus I put a "Padfoot" sign on her harness. Snape would hate to see Sirius walking around so boldly in Animagus form. : D

AHH!!! I remember seeing you and "padfoot" at Infinitus. I was thinking how cool was that? But I know guide dog etiquette so I just admired from afar. I am going to Aeternitas 2011 in New Hampshire this year. I am skipping Leakycon. We are thinking of going to Ascendio next year.

Yes, I have to skip Leakycon this year. All my money has been going to my semester abroad in England (I love it here, tomorrow I'm going to the real Platform 9 3/4). Next year Ascendio is right after my college graduation, so I'm hoping I can get the funds together to go.
When we're not in a hurry to get somewhere I will sometimes take the harness off so "Padfoot" can say hello to people. She's very friendly. If we're both at Ascendio I'd love to get a picture with the Professor. : )
