Thank You for the Llama. I see someone was already telling you about gimp. I use it also, and recommend it. There is a version that is made to operate like photoshop. Makes it easier to get going for people that know how to use photoshop already. [link]

You need not PS, but there are free softwares, as
GIMP [link] - it is a bitmap-based, you can edit everithing with it, crop, turn, layers, resize, colors...
Inkscape [link] - for vector graphic...
Blender [link] - 3D pics and anims.
So now you can do everything what you want.
