Thankyou again for your insightful comment, it's nice to know that the piece is communicating to at least one person in a way I'd like it to, haha.

How are you doing anyway?

Kablakistan2 In reply to shebadapuddytat [2007-07-05 23:28:48 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I never have any idea how my work (art or papers) communicate to other people. I can always think of millions of ways to see things, sometimes it is hard to see why people choose one way over another. But that's part of what makes life fun, right?

I am good, thanks for asking. Trying to finish up some papers from last year, helping to put together a syllabus for a housing course and looking forward to having all of my coursework for my PhD done. One more year. I think I liked my masters program better or I am just too old for this sitting in class business.

And you?

couldn't help but notice your studying @ Yale. Got a friend up there about to finish his first year of grad school...trombone studies.

later.

Ah, cool. Yale is pretty nice, the people here seem quite happy and are quite friendly. It's a small community, and I think that is part of it.

Why thank you. I actually know very little about "Art". I am an architect by training and a theorist by instinct.

But thanks for the watch.

You're so kind.
Thanks.
I spend too much time worrying about what to do with my life to have much time for art these days.
Sad how that works.
... especially when painting would make me feel better.

I hope you find your way.. And as you said, to create somethng would probably make you feel better along the way..
Sometimes everything just seems to be dried out - only to burst free again later.
Hope your creativity bursts free soon again

Happy new year

i like the new teeth
and I agree with others, the heels are the weak part of the whole thing

the only other comment i would have, is that i wouldn't want you to make him look too old. Just cause it seems that people in the garden of eden should look more child-like?
what do you think?

Googling "existential peril" gives you this:

[link]

It's written in a remarkably objective manner for something so taboo; I am guessing that the author supposed that the subject matter itself would be so inflammatory to most readers that a wholesale biased review was unnecessary. Took me a while to figure out which side of the argument the writer was on (didn't notice the domain name at first) until I got to the Biblical reference.

Kablakistan2 In reply to pur9e [2004-01-08 01:37:51 +0000 UTC]

interesting.
wonder what existential peril has to do with that... i only read the first paragraph though.
and I am not totally in tune with what existential means...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pur9e In reply to Kablakistan2 [2004-01-08 17:32:27 +0000 UTC]

I think existential peril as I see it has nothing to do with this. It was used in a context of 'you are in peril while you are existing' or something. Not how I'd apply it.

Kablakistan2 In reply to pur9e [2004-01-09 01:35:33 +0000 UTC]

yea... interesting.
how do you see existential peril?
in a way related to sartre? or do I have the wrong guy?

i feel this sort of thing most strongly as a complete vertigo.
i am often plagued with dizziness.
I agree with you, that reason is never what it is made out to be. Unbiased, infallible. It is always used for a reason, toward an end. To be truly objective, or omni-jective?, you fall prey to the parry to the Political Correctness movement.
How far can you open your mind before your brains fall out.
My mom and I used to have this theory that your learning in life is framed by this dumb little sayings, how they hit you, when you find them to be recurring. That they are saying something to you that you want to learn. It could be like the Tao. Or it could just be dumb.

The peril that your well-being enters when you attempt to dissect existence into ever more minute constituents. The peril that results from discovering you have sound reasoning behind a surface understand that reason itself is an illusory supposition.

I've been in the habit of putting up there writers
whom I am reading; in this case, she was the only bright
spot in an otherwise awful anthology which led me to dig out
Revolution in Poetic Language which is the only one
I have at home which led to her being moved to the top
of my library list. notwithstanding all her wonderful ideas,
I think she uses words as perfectly as anyone.

and I no longer have the privilege or burden of college.

I dumped them all. I might submit something again soon though. I haven't made any computer pictures in months, it was taking up too much time that I should've been using to make physical work, so I'm just painting now, mostly.

Hope you've been well, i'm really glad you're still around here.
