Hi there! I heard that you make good lack of concept artwork of the character's basis.
So here's my request, please make a concept for Betty Boop & her estranged father, Benny Boop. This will bring truth and happiness together for Fleischer Studios.
Here's the link here.

Also sign this petition!

Hi there
Before I answer fully here's a little tip: Telling an artist he makes: '…good lack of concept artwork…' is NOT a compliment!

As for the rest of your 'request'…so you want me to draw Betty and Benny Boop and put it in YOUR DeviantArt gallery…for free? And then you tell me, rather than ask me, to sign a petition!?

It would appear that you and I have very different interpretations of the word 'request'!

So it is with little regret that I will have to decline your 'request':
I have no interest in drawing other artists characters.
I don't work for free.
I don't particularly like Betty Boop (and even though I'd never even heard of her estranged father, Benny Boop, I don't like him either!)
I don't sign petitions when ordered to!

Hello David!
I wanted to ask, where you there when the Doctor Who crew flew to Spain/Valencia to film a month ago?
It's my city, where i live, and I'm so lucky, that I was away that exact week giving a conference in germany. (Things that only happen ones in a life and I decide to take a trip.)

I keep thinking, that maybe i could have met you there and I lost my oportunity, but I don't even know if you took the trip.

Good Wishes from spain.

Hiya
I haven't done any work on the current Dr Who season, so no I wasn't lucky enough to be in Valencia.

I'm in the process of moving to Portugal and gradually getting myself out of the film industry. My girlfriend and I are forming a small company in Lisbon through which we will try and do some film and TV work locally, will teach workshops and concentrate on our own personal work which we hope to sell over the internet.

With you in Spain and me in Portugal that makes us practically neighbours!

Pimander1446 In reply to Kaduflyer [2016-09-08 14:14:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I didn't know that, I see.
It's been long since I've watched Doctor Who. (I stopped at season 7) I've been pretty busy lately, with studies and moving as well. (Now I'm in the city centrum)

Good luck with moving, hope everything goes well! At least better than it went for me, we moved 3 months ago and we are still repairing the house that keeps breaking apart and we haven't unboxed yet our stuff.
Do you know how to talk portuguese or spanish?
I know nothing of portuguese, only spanish, english and german, for now at least. I really enjoy learning lenguages.

A small company in Lisbon, sounds interesting, i wish you luck with that! This days people ain't brave enough to start something new from scratch, they rather stick to big companies than risking.

Film and TV! How sweet.  The Workshops sound interesting! Sadly I'm still a bit far away here in Valencia, it's the other Ocean I'm facing.
I just finished my preproduction studies for Film and Tv shows and now i have to prepare porfolios and try to find a job, but i got stuck there, i don't trust my steps at all in this. I started a porfolio, still not finished, hestitating a lot about which works i shall post there and how to approach it all later to send it to companies. I've never worked before. (I have done orders through internet and also dubbing for Tv shows, here in spain. But that's all of my working experience.)
I'd love to try for an intership at Cartoon Network, my favorite Tv show company, but they are imposible to reach. Looks like one can only reach them through connections somehow, no way to send them a mail or anything at all.
I'd walk into the company personaly to ask for information, but sadly california is too far away for an informative trip.

I wish you both good luck with all of the personal work! Finally you'll have your time to work on your own stuff. I'm looking forward to see what you do!

Yeah, practically neighbours! I have a house in Santiago, Galicia, it's almost at the border with portugal. Use it for summer vacations.

Unlike you I never enjoyed learning languages and am not very good at it…plus I'm British and we're a very lazy race when it comes to language as so many around the world speak English as their second language. Portuguese is not an easy one to learn either…Spanish, French and Italian make more sense to my English brain and I can make a fairly good attempt at figuring out words in those languages; but Portuguese has some very odd pronunciations that are totally alien to me!

It's going to take some time to set up our workshop/company…it's cost me a lot of money and I can see us having to return to the UK to earn some more Euros before we get things going full time here.

A summer house in Galicia eh?….very nice!!

Hi!
First of all: you are great, just great. the work you doo is so special in a way, that I don't think anyone was able to copy it, it also has something mobid to it!
And now a few questions... (sorry)
I am very young, I mean VERY young, and am planning to go study art or something of that kind of stuff but I am really addicted to props and masks and sculpts and stuff, so my question is: is there any way to kind of study sculpturing (in germany )?
And second: Right now I try to find an epic Cosplay.. well I've already found: the Silence from Dr.W but I neither have the space nor the money to work with (professional) silicone... is there any way you would suggest to build such a mask? I was thinking about a combination of severeal very light materials and as final layer worbla (which can be reworked on and which can be edited with a Dremel (for ex.))
Anyways I hope you'll do much more sculpts and stuff because they're all GREAT!

Kaduflyer In reply to xWolverineMan [2016-03-16 18:48:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the kind words…I'm glad you like what I do.

I'm not familiar with any sculpting courses in Germany, though I'm sure there must be excellent ones. The thing to do is start looking at courses and colleges as soon as possible….visit them if you can! What you are looking for is somewhere that teaches good, classical sculpting with the emphasis on working from life, anatomy study etc etc. Much modern art education places too much emphasis on 'expression' and you'll find students glueing coffee cups to refrigerators or some other such nonsense and calling it sculpture…avoid places like these as you will learn NOTHING!!
You can also of course learn from home by yourself…like I did…simply buy a bag of clay (its very cheap) and get going! I learnt everything at the start from some books by a wonderful artist called Bruno Lucchessi…they are still available to buy and I cant recommend them enough. Plus there are many, many tutorials online these days.

If it's a career in make up effects you want then you could also consider a shorter pay course. I'm a regular tutor at Gorton Studios in the UK and although I'm kind of biased I have to say the course is simply brilliant. It's expensive but most students tell us its the best money they've ever spent. You might find similar courses closer to home, I know Aris Kolokontes (an awesome sculptor known here on DA as Bolaris) teaches a short course once a year at a college in Germany…though I'm sorry I don't know its name. I also know of courses in Italy and Spain. I'm currently in the long process of relocating from the UK to Portugal and eventually I intend to teach courses in sculpting there. I know none of these are Germany but at least they are a little closer than Britain!

FaceBook is a brilliant resource for all things make up and special effects related. Friend me there and join some of the groups devoted to make up effects. Neill Gorton's Make up 911, for instance is a fantastic place to get your questions answered by professionals from all over the world. As a professional group we are a very friendly bunch, eager to help people like you and to pass on our experience….don't be shy!!!

As for your Silence mask, other people I know have made their own versions in latex (like the Halloween masks in shops), it's the easiest and cheapest way I know and all you need is clay, plaster and liquid latex. It's probably easier for you to look at the many tutorials online about the process than for me to describe it in detail here.
I'm not familiar with the material worbla, so I can't really comment on its suitability or not.

Hope this helps a little…if you need more information or advice please feel free to message me

I don't want to write another roman here, so I'll message you on FB or Da (maybe both)
Anyways thanks for answering, never thought a well known professional was going to answer my silly bunch of amateur questions.

Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaduflyer In reply to Suveru [2016-02-06 21:41:19 +0000 UTC]

The work I do for film and TV is often a group effort with professional mould makers, foam technicians, hair fabricators etc. where others have helped with sculpting I've credited them here, but otherwise it's all my work yes.
