Do you happen to have a guide on how to color metallic stuff? I've always envied how shiny your Pern dragons are (and I can't ever seem to get my settings right to get that nice shine; they always end up so muddy).

I don't... but that's honestly a really great idea and something I should put together at some point... One of the biggest things I can think that you might want to try would be to put a layer on top that's set to overlay (for Photoshop, not sure what the equivalent would be in other programs) and just lightly paint in the brightest highlights with a white (or very very light color). I can definitely also suggest googling some metallic reference to help you figure out how light plays across such a surface. Also, don't forget reflections and bounce light; those really help to convey shininess.
