# About me
I am an artist and a writer. Sometimes I separate the two forms, but primarily my work is a marriage of image and text. I am first and foremost a storyteller, and necessarily, my work often requires sequential imagery. My content is informed by stream of consciousness and dreams. I believe this approach yields the most unfiltered insight into my being.Although my work includes painting and sculpture, my medium of choice is drawing. To capture the immediacy of my ideas I work in materials that do not take a lot of preparation and planning. Furthermore, using line imbues my work with a gestural vitality and expressiveness sometimes lost in more contemplative forms. The subject of most of my art is the nude figure, usually distorted or disfigured, sometimes literally and sometimes metaphorically.
I write traditional poetry and prose, but I employ elements of both in each genre. My poetry tends towards the free form, and my prose uses conventions of verse. The subjects of my writing are situations in the external world as experienced and expressed through the internal voice of my characters, with the purpose of the internal exposing a different facet of the external.
Much of my poetry and prose is born during the act of creating art. I can not write without including drawings and I can not draw without including writing. However, I’m not just captioning images– the text is an important and integral part of my visual compositions. For example, my triptych painting, Alone, which deals with both the positive and negative impact of isolation, portrays three secluded figures. Inclusion of the poem not only informs us of the mental state of the each figure, but the placement and rendering of the text within the image echos their gesture.
