# About me
Kathrin Jones is a Utah based jewelry artist working with wire and other materials. She is originally from Forst/Lausitz, a small town near the Polish border of Germany in what was East Germany before Reunification. Her interest in traditional old-world style lace got her started in creating jewelry. Using traditional techniques as a base, she works in wire to bring new designs to classic elements. Fantasy and steam punk provide inspiration for her to take her work in adventurous directions and she enjoys working with materials with natural beauty from silver and copper wire to stone and shell beads to watch parts and more. She takes pride in hand crafting the individual links for her chains to carry on the tradition of personal workmanship of many wonderful craftspeople of our past, present and our literary worlds.
In her spare time she enjoys reading from diverse sources from Cook to Tolkien to Cussler as well watching fantasy, sci-fi, adventure and travel movies and shows. She has lived in the States for over 13 years and currently resides in Salt Lake City where her work is supervised by her cats Pepper and Shilo who are careful to give good reason not to leave any spare bits around.

yes, I do all the chain work myself.
I rarely use pre-done chains. If I do I recycle old chains.

I consider myself an amateur too I just barely started getting into jewelry a year ago.
Unfortunately it's hard to find people around here who are in the same mindset. I mean not just hobby, but going into the more serious business type stuff.
How about you?

I'm trying to start a business out of it myself I have actually had quite a few sales and have been in business with a store. I've been doing it for a little over a year but I keep learning new things and am getting better at it

did you make your own website or opened a store on etsy, storenvy or something like that? Did you register you name with your state? How did you go about all that? I'm hesitant to do an etsy account, not really sure why - it's not feeling right.
I have some sales here and there from personal orders of friends and co-workers, but that is not enough.
people say to do Farmers Markets to get my name out, but I don't have to much inventory. A necklace takes ruffly a week because it's all handmade and of course I atill have a fulltime job.
could you give me some tips.
Also finding a business name, ugh...I have a hard time with that. My name is not special. how did you choose you business name?
sorry about all those questions.

Haha its ok it just starts with passion i got my business name Brothersandbrown. Thats my last name and my grandma's i pût herd in there because she Was an inspiration to me and incouraged me so i wanted to show how much i apprêached her. Finding my business name jus came to me i didnt really think about that sometimes if something sounds good for à business name it just fits you know what i mean?? As for Wellington my jewrly i just got my name around if you want go do stuff like that have à jewrly part invite everyone you know and if they like your stuff most likely they Will talk about it with someone else oh and holiday jewrly selle Quick also. And another thing this is for your benifit but if all your jewrly is réal you can sell it quicker theres à website called fire mountin gems they got some really good and real beads. And i also talk to more experienced jewrly makers they give me advice i fan into one the other day make yourself some business cards as well getting your name out there is hard but its do able also take advantage of social we sites and make a page for just your jewrly and post your pictures on them if you keep doing those things you'll get your name out there

Thank you so much for your reply.
The name I was having in mind for my business was - Kat's on-of-a-kind jewelry. The bracelets you see are made in an old technique called bobbin lace. i just sat down and adjust the patters, so I can work them in wire.
Jones is unfortunately a left over from my Ex-husband, it's an easy name, but don't really want to use it. I might just go with E&H jewelry (uh, yes!!!!) that sounds good. those are the 1st initials of my parents last names (Elsholz & Hantke). Wow that sounds so much more professional.
My stones are mostly from Firemountain Gems or also from the Gem Faire we have here 3 times a years.
Because of the cost of silver and gold I mostly work with copper plated wire (which I don't really like though).
I made some commission pieces with 14k gold wire and silver filled wire - uh, so nice to work with that - gives me a more safer feeling that it doesn't rust or tarnish or make peoples skin green or something like that. LOL
you would think that Salt Lake City has more jewelry artist here, but there are hard to find. I'm trying at this point to get a group of people together who have the same mind set regarding jewelry business (as kind of a support).
I will try to make some earrings - those are fast to make and get some money in.
My next bigger project will be the LTUE in Provo. It's a small convention which has a dealers room. I still have time to make some inventory for that. It's for 3 days in February.
It's so nice to chat with someone who is going into the same direction
I'm looking into making myself a homemade jewelers workbench - also looking into getting more tools to work more with sheet metal for different types of bracelets I have in mind. I'm kind of a nerd - so I want to start to put my love for scy-fi and fantasy into my work.

That name suites your business you should stick to it. Ive notice à lot of jewrly makers use their names in their business which is totally understand able i mean you want people to know you made it. I have some silver évén though it cost more i would Still buy it. I would have to agree with you that making earrings is the fastest type of jewrly to make. I dont know many people that want to make à business out of jewrly they just do it for à hobby
