Well well well, here's a name I haven't seen in Donkey's years! How you going Cedric?! What have you been doing with yourself?

Let me try a summarized version: I have been doing SCIENCE (lots),Β completed my immigration in Canada with my girlfriend, moved to Edmonton, struggled with unemployment of overqualified people, adopted a demon-cat, tried to sell home-made mayonnaise to a local farmers' market (I kid you not), played lots of video games during the crazy-cold winters (say hello to -40 Celsius), now doing MOAR SCIENCE and having a blast with 3d modeling and Blender 3d. Got lots of anecdotes in store, if you wish to know Β A bit of a bumpy road, but overall it's been good.

How about you?

You have been a busy bee, but I fully understand the unemployment business. How are you doing now? Β

How did the home-mdae mayonnaise sell? I suppose having a science degree you could wow them with their biological perfected mayo. Β  Now -40 is CRAZY crazy cold. Β What modelling program are you using? Β  Β I always wish to know your stories!

I've been on a very bumpy road myself, unemployment is a bitch and a bunch of other personal dramas, but trying to get more active. Anyway note me your email address! We need to catch up.

Sorry I haven't had much time to reply (yes, we need to catch up!). Last weeks at work were insane! I'll need to sleep for about a week. I managed to finish a new scene with Blender 3d though

I noticed a lot of people changing their names, was so excited when dA added this feature.

Figured that while I'm working on turning this year of rubbish to a year of change, why not start here.

Yes, I've seen a lot of high school names swapped out for adult names.

Any new art to show us, Kate? Seems like I've been following you forever.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katie-Grace In reply to pearwood [2013-04-06 03:31:30 +0000 UTC]

It has been forever. I did have a bunch of new stuff, a few of which aren't quite appropriate for dA, however the IT guys have made it official, my hard drive cannot be recovered so an entire year of work not uploaded has vanished. As well as everything before that including my uni course.

Should be powering out some design stuff and a new style of drawing fairly soon. One day I'll settle with a style.... one day.... maybe.

Ugh. I bought a pair(!) of Seagate 1TB USB drives. The one gets rsynched from my images folder daily, then periodically goes to work with me so I can take the second home and repeat the process. The US$250 I paid is a small expense compared with losing a year's work.

Keep drawing.

Thats something I should really look into doing, normally its on my computer and my hard drive, but this particular occasion I was getting ready to take my computer in for a service the day after. Just terrible terrible timing and a hyper hyper corgi.

You're welcome! Ooh, photoshop-animations! I love your little flash-animations, I'd love to see a photoshop-made one! And thank you, I just started studying at middlesex university in North-London

Katie-Grace In reply to Panimated [2012-11-25 05:56:51 +0000 UTC]

I like photoshop, makes everything a lot more natural. But I'm still struggling with the timing. There's probably a solution staring me right in the face somewhere.

You've only just started studying? D: I can't wait to see what your final project looks like in a few years. How is the course going so far?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Panimated In reply to Katie-Grace [2012-11-27 13:38:28 +0000 UTC]

Timing and matching frames to sound is pretty hard to do in photoshop, I agree... Have you been using After effects? We've been using it a bit at uni, it seems really useful
So far I'm having fun, the teachers are great, the projects are challenging and spot-on to my interests, but still has a lot of variation. And I'm quite impressed with all the facilities, 3D-scanners, metalworks, jewellery- and printmaking-rooms, we really got everything we need, and more. So pretty much; inspiring and fun!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katie-Grace In reply to Panimated [2012-12-02 21:54:01 +0000 UTC]

My experience in After effects was very limited, just a few minutes in a lesson at college as we scrambled to compile our final films. But it seems like a brilliant program to use. Glad they're teaching it right off the mark for you.

Will you have a chance to play with the 3d scanners and metalworks? That sounds like it could be good fun after scrambling some animation.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Panimated In reply to Katie-Grace [2012-12-05 15:13:48 +0000 UTC]

I can use the 3D-scanners if I want to, but they are using a software that's pretty hard to work with.. Also, it used to be free before, but they might start charging soon... I can use metalworks whenever I want, really, but I have to buy materials myself. I want to give it a try someday though!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katie-Grace In reply to Panimated [2012-12-21 05:33:45 +0000 UTC]

That's a shame they're jumping on the bandwagon to charge for their use. But if they are using the money to buy better equipment thats no too bad. Have you done any metal work before? That would be so amazing to try and build with I think. Useful tool too.

We're doing pretty well, Kate. We just got back from visiting Corky's sister and family in Iowa. (Shirlee is the one who gave me the Yashica-D two years ago.) We took the Amtrak and loved it.

I developed four rolls then mixed fresh chemicals. I have to let everything cool back to room temperature before developing the other two.

We moved in August. Pictures are in the gallery. We like the new place.

How about yourself? Still painting?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katie-Grace In reply to pearwood [2012-11-25 05:55:10 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you love the new place, always nice having a new start. Is it far from your old home?

I didn't realize you developed all your own photos. Must be nice, I always loved the darkroom at school.

I'm still scribbling, nothing to be proud of. Working hard more then anything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

pearwood In reply to Katie-Grace [2012-11-25 20:16:45 +0000 UTC]

Happily, developing film doesn't require a full dark room, just a black back for loading the developing reels. The new place has a room under the back porch that is begging to be turned into a dark room, but that's next year's project.

The new place is about five miles north of the old one, and less than a mile south of the Lake Ontario shore and Irondequoit Bay outlet. I want to get a set of portage wheels so I can walk my canoe down the hill to the bay. The last two years have been so crazy that I have not gotten the canoe into the water at all. It is hanging in the garage being reproachful. I even got a waterproof 35mm camera to use with it.

Post something when you get a chance, even if it's just something from your sketchbook.

I like you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katie-Grace In reply to pearwood [2012-12-21 05:32:34 +0000 UTC]

I had no idea film could be developed in just any old room with a black back. Thats great! Still would be good to have your house under the porch ready to develop things like some Dark Room Troll.

Two years without a paddle? No wonder you're itching to get back on the water. An at least you know the river not having moved to far.

I like you too.
