# About me

The dolls are illustrations of the characters from my stories, except those that portray David Bowie's stage and film characters. I do not manufacture the dolls, neither do I sell them. I do all of the customization and painting, as well as most of the garment design and construction.

About commissions:

If you ask me without a greeting and introduction*, “can u make me a bowie doll?”, then the answer is, “No.”

If you introduce yourself, tell me you like my work, and inquire politely if I accept commissions, my answer will be very polite and friendly, perhaps, even apologetic and with suggestions of other artists who could help you. But it is still a “no.”

*Unless you are Iman, of course. Iman doesn’t need an introduction. Hell, she doesn’t even need to be polite. ;)

I happened across your Jereth doll via a Google image search for the doll seen in the film, but I have to say, your dolls are simply superb. They truly embody the mystique and beauty of the man who fell to Earth and are a fitting tribute to his legacy. Thank you for sharing your immaculate works with us.

As an aside, I looked through your gallery and saw you had the Thin White Duke(awesome!), but have you ever thought of or tried adapting any of Yoshitaka Amano's TWD motifs into doll form?

Thank you so much for your kind words! Jareth is definitely my favorite out of all my dolls, his costume surely took the most work. As far is Amano's inspiration, it's a great idea. Never occurred to me though, because I was working with the Labyrinth the movie as reference, but perhaps in the future. Thanks for the thought!

Kat is is difficult to cast your own heads? I would love to learn if you have some good links.

Katyok In reply to CrystalGreene [2014-12-21 18:55:21 +0000 UTC]

Hi there,
Short answer is: yes. Long answer is: it depends on the desired quality. For a dirty job on a single artist doll head all you need is some Apoxy Sculpt (or some other clay), but for professional quality resin casting you'll need quality raw polyurethane (toxic!) and a vacuum chamber. Since I've never cast a head myself, I suggest you join The Joint , it has great resources for dollmakers. Also, before deciding on the project, think of the target audience. The BJD market is very involved and pretty saturated.
Good luck!

I would like to ask you if I could use your Thin White Duke image in a blog post on Linkedin that I'm preparing.  I love it! I'm writing a short piece on my passion for David Bowie and your image is inspiring.  I would, of course, give complete photo credit to you.  Thank you for your consideration.

Hi.  I am trying to purchase the Don't babble poster.  When I add it to my cart, a message says it is no longer available. Since I am new to DeviantArt, I don't know what that means or what to do. Any ideas?  Thanks!

I've seen the Jareth doll all over the internet now and I have to say, "Wow". Out of sheer orneriness, I must ask, when Mr. Bowie calls and asks for his doll, will you give him up or will you make another?

Katyok In reply to EatsShootsAndLeaves [2013-05-21 19:38:21 +0000 UTC]

Hehe... Thank you, you are too kind. As far as your question, I suppose he'll find out when he calls, won't he?

Love your nickname, btw.

Hello! First I have to say that I love what you're doing with your dolls, it feels very real, your pictures have a lot of atmosphere. One question that you must get every now and then... did you make your Bowie doll? Did you get the base of the doll and somebody else made the face? Thanks for your time, and keep up the good work!

Steampunk-Girl In reply to Steampunk-Girl [2013-05-13 19:51:39 +0000 UTC]

Alright, sorry, I just read the information of your id... then a different question, did you sculp the head and then took a cast out of it? it really does look very professional!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Katyok In reply to Steampunk-Girl [2013-05-13 20:49:23 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your kind words. My Ziggy and Jareth heads were custom sculpted and cast in Korea on my specs. There are only two of these particular heads in existence, it was a private order. I did additional customization by reductive carving and sanding, as well as painting.

Your dolls are truly fabulous. their skin is so translucent, I could stare at them for hours. Bowie is a major influence on me as well - one of the reasons I got into mask making. (Can barely contain my excitement at the new album yeeee!)

Anyhow, having looked at your work I am seriously considering attempting to make my own Bowie-doll. Would you have any advice on where to start, or links to tutorials that might give me some basic pointers, such as what types of material to play with, etc? I'd be most grateful. Cheers, and thanks once again for sharing such beautiful work.

Fantastic, I'll check it out - thanks very much. I've kind of always wanted to do a Bowie related mask or puppet. A doll opens up all kinds of new possibilities! It might take me a while, but I am definitely inspired.
Also, I meant to say last time, your Jareth mask is one of the best versions of it that I've seen. Really nicely crafted.
