Oh? I don't really view it that way. It's essentially sounds of the creation of the universe. The farther back you go toward the big bang's originating spot, the farther back in time you go, so it makes sense residual sound would remain! It's incredibly interesting, space.

John-the-Enforcer In reply to KemiColon [2013-12-05 00:15:14 +0000 UTC]

Well, it would be kind of eerie if you were travelling throughout space and you heard that as you got closer to a planet's orbit.

I'm more interested in the theories behind time travel and all that that entails.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

John-the-Enforcer In reply to KemiColon [2013-12-20 17:20:09 +0000 UTC]

I think time travel is perilous if you consider all the possibilities of ways one mix-up in the past can cause unthinkable damage in our present or future.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KemiColon In reply to John-the-Enforcer [2013-12-20 23:13:01 +0000 UTC]

Well see that's the thing, theoretical physics would imply that a paradox cannot exist. Say, for example, if I went back in time and attempted to kill Hitler. The universe would, in turn, make sure I could not succeed, because he's already done things and that bit of time is set.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

John-the-Enforcer In reply to KemiColon [2013-12-21 04:56:40 +0000 UTC]

Wait...so then all those time paradoxes I've seen in movies and such is wrong?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KemiColon In reply to John-the-Enforcer [2013-12-21 18:19:11 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, basically! The universe will defend against a paradox, because a paradox, by it's very nature, cannot exist! If I tried to stop someone from being born, the universe would do everything and anything to ensure I couldn't, because that would create a paradox!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

John-the-Enforcer In reply to KemiColon [2013-12-21 18:25:50 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...so, if I were to go back and eliminate every scumbag tyrant, dictator, mass murderer, rapist, what-have-you, these creeps would still appear in the history books?Β  That sucks!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KemiColon In reply to John-the-Enforcer [2013-12-21 18:29:07 +0000 UTC]

Well, it'd be more like you /couldn't/ eliminate them. Say you go back and try to kill Hitler. You've got higher tech guns and everything. Nothing should go wrong. The Universe, to defend itself from paradox, would make YOU have a brain aneurism and die or something like that, to keep you from creating a paradox.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

John-the-Enforcer In reply to KemiColon [2013-12-21 18:35:12 +0000 UTC]

Wait...how could I have a brain aneurism? 0.o'Β

Plus, I think the Nazi party still would have made a bid for world conquest, Hitler or no Hitler.

Well, when I'm thinking of disruption in the flow of time, I was thinking even further back, like if I wanted to travel back to the time of the dinosaurs and was forced to kill a velociraptor in self-defense.Β  Since dinosaurs are the ancestors of birds, what if that would disrupt generations of birds down the evolutionary line?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KemiColon In reply to John-the-Enforcer [2013-12-21 18:48:11 +0000 UTC]

Basically, the universe would make it so. It has to defend against a paradox and if nothing else could stop you, that would be it. History cannot be altered in any way, but you are from the future, ergo your future is still up for grabs.

Well yes, but that hardly matters. A Paradox cannot exist, ergo Hitler could not be killed in a time travel botch up.

With something like that, it's a lot easier. There were MANY velociraptors, as long as you didn't kill them into extinction, you'd be able to kill one. Little things like that are fine, however trying to alter the course of history by killing a prominent figurehead would not be allowed by the universe.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

John-the-Enforcer In reply to KemiColon [2013-12-21 18:55:58 +0000 UTC]

Huh.Β  So, Ray Bradbury had it all wrong in "A Sound of Thunder."

Well, nuts.Β  That would have saved a lot of people from being needlessly slaughtered.

Hmmm...well, what if one was to eliminate the very first dromeosaurid (that is, the raptor family)?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KemiColon In reply to John-the-Enforcer [2013-12-22 00:35:01 +0000 UTC]

Most of hollywood gets it wrong.

Basically, you can't alter the present. If you tried to kill your own ancestor, you'd be killed instead and they've live to create your family line, same goes for species.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

It's essentially a safe guard. You can't rewrite history because that's simply not the nature of space-time.
