Hello! Actually, princess sparkles hasn't arrived...our lives are poorer without her. .
And I've had so much work this term, but now that I'm free...well, cathedral slash is /not/ out of the question.
What are you up to now? Have you got as much uni application stress as me?

How did I not see this comment until, like, NOW?!
*dies*
I'm ill and so stressed about my portfolio work its just mental...
What are you applying for, pet?
And how've you been of late?

Applying for art foundation! Which is more stress than it's worth. The word 'ortfolio' sends an involuntary shiver down my spine, even now.
Apart from that, though, I've not been bad...Apart from the fact that I ordered some materials that I need to finish my current art coursework about a week ago, and they still haven't arrived. Oh, and essays. There are /always/ essays.
So where are you applying to?

PipinsAncestor In reply to Kittencatty [2008-01-31 09:51:42 +0000 UTC]
Bournemouth Arts Institute
Its only down the road, and cos we're the local grammar, apparently "girls from Parkstone have never failed to get into the Institute" and we have specialised interviews at the school, so it just makes life that much easier. I debated Falmouth, but applying close to home is cheaper than paying for food and accomadation for a year. What about yoooou?
Though we have, like, less than a month to get everything together now and I'm actually DYING
Oooh oho oh! Inspired by YOOOOU [and your Terezian (sp?) room] I got a shedload of letraset markers!! ^___^ And now insist on playing with them at all opportunities! ^^ I got a bit carried away last night actually, as you'll see by the piece I uploaded >.< skin toning is so fun though!!
Oh lordie, yes, the essays...*shudders*
Did you get to pick your essay title? Our first draft is due in on monday.... Eep!

Kittencatty In reply to PipinsAncestor [2008-02-01 10:23:51 +0000 UTC]
I'm (attempting to!) stay in London for my foundation year, for similar reasons to yours, so I've applied to Kingston (but didn't get an interview, unfortunately, grr), Wimbledon, and Oxford Brookes, which is...not in London at all, actually. They're all ridiculously competitive, though; there're hundreds, possibly thousands who apply, and only one in about eight or so gets in. Which is really disheartening!
Eee! You got markers! Aren't they awesome? And slightly addictive. I have a tendency to compulsively buy them...If I ever have to transport my collection, the only box I can fit them all in once held champagne, which leads to some very peculiar questions pertaining as to just why I'm toting booze around.
And as I do triple humanities and a language, I have at least three essays a week. x_x Which is three too many for me! Especially as I seem to work best at about midnight the night before the essay's due in.

Ah, I think most work well during that "panic time" tbh hahaha
Oh gosh, I didn't apply anywhere like that, I was like "hmmmm Bournemouth is obnoxiously good and about twenty minutes away...Lets go there!!" XD great logic >.<
You'll get into one fer sure! No doubt! You're way too good not to!
And ohmigoshyes!!! SOOOOO much so! I've got mine in a lunchbox atm which is HIGHLY embarassing as my best friend just put a Little Mermaid picture on the front, old school style ><
But its still so addictive <3 I love the shower picture I just did, it makes me happy ^_^ I'm well getting into doing skin tones atm!
What happened to ART?! WHERE IS ART IN YOUR TRIPLE HUM && LANG?! Shocking. Hehe
Ohmigosh. I did my art essay! 3583 words ^_^ *ish proud* I was a bit happy, its probably a load of cack, but hell, at least its over the word limit!

Kittencatty In reply to PipinsAncestor [2008-02-08 20:39:04 +0000 UTC]
Aw, thanks! And aren't markers awesome? They're absolutely my favourite medium - they're malleable, vivid, and able to do both intense shading and detail.
And art is a humanity! It's one of my three! ...the one that takes up most time, as well. I just handed in my final coursework for it today - I've been doing SO MUCH WORK on it. I actually completed the sketchbook, which I barely /ever/ do. But it totally killed me - I do not need to see scissors or glue again for a /long/ time, let me tell you!
Ahh, I did my art essay at the beginning of the year. I have pretty much /no idea/ what I wrote now - and what's really embarrassing is that for art history I had to do a presentation on the artist I had studied for it, recently - and found out that pretty much everything I'd written in my coursework was a MASSIVE LIE. Oh well. At least I presented it prettily.
So now I just have the final exam - I got the prompt sheet today. And they're all RIDICULOUS. One of them is "vacuum cleaner". What the hell?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
PipinsAncestor In reply to Kittencatty [2008-02-10 19:55:57 +0000 UTC]
Vaccuum cleaner? WTF? Haha.
You have this long to do it? We don't get ours til April! >.<
A massive lie? Well, at least its not complete cack like mine is. I'm half tempted to post it as a piece of literature on here when I'm done, just for shits and giggles. XD
I didn't know art was a humanity, I thought it was...An art ¬_¬ Like, with textiles and drama and music and shizz....?
I'm working my ass off on extra portfolio work atm, as you can probably tell by the huge intake of stuff I've been uploading >.<
All my project work is too big to scan in cos it's all A3 or bigger. Eep. I hate working big >_<
What question have you picked then? Or prompt, or whutever its called?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Kittencatty In reply to PipinsAncestor [2008-02-12 05:05:15 +0000 UTC]
I know! How can you do a fifteen hour exam about vacuum cleaners? I mean, they're just not /interesting/. In any way. And yeah, we have ages for planning and preliminaries, etc, but then again we do the exam fairly early, so that it's out of the way.
(I tend to split subjects into the category of sciences or humanities - sometimes language gets its own category as well. But as art certainly isn't a science, it comes under the banner of a humanity for me!)
Aaaagh the portfolio word! I just submitted it to another uni today - and it's one that doesn't interview, as well. I don't get to make use of my innate charm. *pout* At least I'll find out quickly if I get in or not.
And as for the titles - I really don't know. I had a lot of fun doing a costume design one last year, but the design section of the paper was just ridiculous, so that pretty much rules it out. The title that seems interesting to me is about mythological creatures, so I'll probably end up working with that, I think.

PipinsAncestor In reply to Kittencatty [2008-02-13 18:05:17 +0000 UTC]
AHAHAH actually, I'd well look at the insides and all the different parts
And then make characters out of them
In a really abstract sorta take on them. Mhmm. Cos I have odd ways of thinking like that XD
I'm envious, how long do you get? We get four weeks exactly, usually with a holiday in the middle of it, to prep. >.<
Oh em gee, I have my mock interview tomorrow with my Head of Art && my Deputy Headteacher, eep! >< I'm really sapzzing, found out the timings && I'm the first one on the list!! What the hell am I going to do?! I'm going to have to be wheeled in in a straight jacket x]
And I thought they always put an interview with portfolio? How did you submit it? Did you just give the original away and hoped to get it back?
Ooooh mythological creatures are amaaaaaazing, I mean, we got 'ick your own project' && I ended up doing a HP textbook so I'd be all for that'un too tbh! ^^
It'll give you a REALLY wide scope for your imagination too I'd think.
Oooh, its got me all excited. I kinda half want my exam paper now, but that'd mean I'd've had to finish my final piece for this project, and, considering I haven't even started I doubt this is a clever idea... Hehehe.

Kittencatty In reply to PipinsAncestor [2008-02-19 21:26:04 +0000 UTC]
(sorry I didn't reply earlier! I've been having issues with internet.)
Your idea for vacuum cleaner does sound interesting, but I've decided against it. Just as I decided against titles like "shed" and "buttons". As for the planning, we get from now until...about...when the exam is. I think it's in april? or so? So we actually get quite a long time.
How'd the mock interview go? I have no idea what I'd be like in one. I think I'd end up doing one of two things - either being too cocky, arrogant, and full of bullshit, or degenerating into a stuttering nervous wreck.
At Wimbledon, and some of the other London art schools, you just drop off your portfolio off one day, pick it up a few days (or hours, in some cases) later, and then receive a letter telling you of a further interview, or just a plain acceptance/rejection.
And I am /so/ looking forward to this project, actually - I have loads of ideas on it which I'm just waiting to carry out!

How's the art going?
We get our exam questions when we go back next week && having seen the immense question the GCSE lot got, we're other gonna be really lucky or really stuffed!
What did you pick in the end for yours?
^_^
And is everything else alright in the land of Katie?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Kittencatty In reply to PipinsAncestor [2008-03-31 21:52:36 +0000 UTC]
Everything's very alright in the land of me! What about in the land of you? I've just been spending my holidays so far doing, to be frank, absolutely nothing productive (well, except baking. But I do that anyway.). It's wonderful. I really should be working on my art - I chose a mythological creatures title, which encompasses angels as well, so I've been spending ages drawing them and not doing any background research at all! I'm planning on doing a big mixed media piece for the exam though...but I'm still not sure which mythological creatures to focus on...
Art seems to be going well, though...and as it's the holidays I am /finally/ getting the chance to work on extracurricular artwork, which is lovely. I have officially given up caring about mock exams - there isn't an art one, I don't have one for Japanese, English involves next to no revision (I've been seeing looooads of cheap performances of Hamlet to help with my shakespeare essay, and I think that counts), and I'm going away on an art history trip next week, which is going to be all my revision.
What question did your GCSE lot get? I'm currently realllly envious of my school's AS lot, as they got a prompt which is pretty much doing steampunk designs and costumes, which just makes me want to weep with jealousy. Seriously, I would be so awesome at that title. And I bet nobody's doing it, as well. I suppose I'll just have to draw some steampunk stuff for this gallery here!
