# About me

I do photo editing but instead of posting them in my main gallery, that will be posted in my scraps instead. I will occasionally do a request if asked to and depending on how you wish for it to be, I can do it to the best of my ability. Just make sure that you tell me the name of the character so I won't just name it 'Photo Edit Request', list the changes you want done to the picture and I will do it.

If this issue becomes a problem again even though I've already stated my edits are not hand drawn as well as posted up disclaimers, I will just take my edits down for good.

DA staff have been unusually prompt this time. They're starting to take them down now.

Wordpress is a popular blogging site for artists here on DA setting up their own external art blogs. You can create a blog there to serve as a diary and gallery for your edits.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kiyomi18Kaiba In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 06:06:08 +0000 UTC]

I am taking down my own edits. DA staff isn't doing squat. I am sick of being hounded about this so I'm taking the photo edits I did down. Except Thunder Copiel because I got Firestorm09's permission to post him.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaydreamer In reply to Kiyomi18Kaiba [2010-02-19 06:10:51 +0000 UTC]

Okay, fair enough. I thought it was DA staff because I am being notified of the takedowns via note, which is what usually happens when they delete deviations I have reported.

Like I said, if you want a place to showcase this stuff, Wordpress is very popular.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Firestorm09 In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 06:19:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that usually happens because it's automated system is programmed to tell you that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Kiyomi18Kaiba In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 06:17:59 +0000 UTC]

I'm not showcasing it anywhere else. That would be pointless. No I will just continue doing photo edits for RPing only and what not. But since you reported all the pics that weren't drawn, that's why you're receiving the notes of their take downs. I am taking them down. I took ALL of them down.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaydreamer In reply to Kiyomi18Kaiba [2010-02-19 06:27:02 +0000 UTC]

I figured that's what was going on. I've never had that happen to be honest.

From what I can see of the stuff you've drawn that I can tell isn't traced (because I can tell some of it is) you had the potential there to get good. There's nothing better then being able to draw your own characters, to have then look and act exactly how you imagine them. It's hard to get good, but it's worth it. I think you should try to act on some of that potential, at least.

Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 04:31:32 +0000 UTC]

With or without disclaimers, editing other artists work is against DA policy. This is not Photobucket or livejournal, which is where your edited pictures would be better suited. What you are doing is against the rules.

I have reported everything in your gallery which was not drawn by you, and I strongly suggest you take down those submissions before the DA staff do. The sheer volume of them leaves you vulnerable to a suspension.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Firestorm09 In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 05:12:46 +0000 UTC]

Hm... I wonder why DA allows members to take someone else's work, edit it into a wallpaper of another picture, and then host it on their DA page with a disclaimer...

That is still an edit of a picture, or two or three.. Sometimes of even different characters from different anime.

*scratches head* Very perplexing.

Oh that reminds me... Of the pictures you reported, I gave her permission to use Thunder Copiel on here.

So far I haven't found anything on DA's FAQ or rules, or guides that states she cannot do this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Kiyomi18Kaiba In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-19 05:33:49 +0000 UTC]

Not all wallpapers are made by the use of Vector anyway. Most are done through photo editing. You could take a random wallpaper you find off of good and slap some anime characters on it, fix it and make it look like the a work of art. You'll never be able to tell the difference but apparently this fact is over looked. Strange... very strange.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firestorm09 In reply to Kiyomi18Kaiba [2010-02-20 00:52:26 +0000 UTC]

I've never done vector... But now I'm curious about how it's done. I may have to find a vector program myself just to try it out.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Kaydreamer In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-19 05:33:17 +0000 UTC]

I've replied in a post to her about the wallpapers. They're created by vector-tracing in Adobe Illustrator, and tracing is not against DA rules. (Unfortunately... >_>) I don't think they belong here either, there's plenty of other places online they could be showcased. But as to comparing it to her colour editing - vector tracing is faaaaaar more involved and complex, so that argument is a dud if you try and use it against the staff. Same as the fanart argument you like to bring up.

As I said, I have a friend who edited screenshots who got everything deleted. This is just not allowed on DA, that's all there is to it - the rules leave no questions about it. I recommend she start a blog where she can showcase her edits instead, and keep DA for her own original art.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firestorm09 In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 05:44:42 +0000 UTC]

Just curious a little. Did your friend take the work directly from people's accounts on DA and edit them? Or did she get them elsewhere?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaydreamer In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-19 05:57:31 +0000 UTC]

No, she sourced them from all around the internet, even screen-catching them from her own games and TV herself. Still an edit of an existing copyrighted work, still not allowed on DA.

It doesn't matter if the work comes from artists here on DA or not. If it is an edit of an existing image it is not allowed.

I just got a note that one of the pictures I reported here has been removed by DA staff. 'Ashford Academy Toph Kuno'. I can only imagine the rest will be following shortly.

She's your friend right? Then rather then trying to defend her here when I think you know she's in the wrong, you should be supporting her in creating her own place to showcase her edits. My friend went to livejournal. There are other blogs out there where you can create a 'gallery' of sorts as well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firestorm09 In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 05:59:58 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I'm already ahead of you on that. I contacted DA on FAQ#8, asking them to clarify it a little more.

And I also told her off DA that it's possible FAQ#8 is being misunderstood by either they or us.

And actually, I don't think it's DA who is removing them. She's removing them herself.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaydreamer In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-19 06:06:43 +0000 UTC]

No, it's DA. I'm getting automated notes from the DA staff confirming the deletion of the things I reported. This isn't the first time I have reported deviations for infringement, I know how the system works.

The fact that DA are deleting them should answer all the questions you have regarding whether they're allowed here or not, I should imagine.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Toadsanime In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 14:45:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I got an automated note about the original deviation that caused a problem.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Firestorm09 In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 06:13:17 +0000 UTC]

They must be doing it at the same time then. Because she's taking them down too.

Strange how they're doing it at the same time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaydreamer In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-19 06:19:30 +0000 UTC]

I may be being informed via note through 'Devart because the pictures I reported are being taken down, but the way they word it makes it sound like DA deleted it.

That, or we're trapped in a strange time-space flux where the deletions are happening simultaneously.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firestorm09 In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 06:25:19 +0000 UTC]

Lol. It's possible.

I know on Fanfiction.net if anyone reports you for whatever reason, the system automatically bans you. Whether you're innocent or not.

And like DA, Fanfiction.net makes it seem as if staff did the banning, when all it really was just a premeditated feature programmed, likely out of Java or PHP scripting.

Hm... If I ever get good at programming, I may just create an Art place myself....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Toadsanime In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-19 14:47:04 +0000 UTC]

A lot of reports come back with a personal message from the moderator. I'm pretty sure it's not bots that do the banning and deleting.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firestorm09 In reply to Toadsanime [2010-02-19 16:54:52 +0000 UTC]

There is no personal message with certain web sites such as Fanfiction.net.

Perhaps on DA there is, but on Fanfiction.net, any message you get pertaining to a ban has a nice little notice that says: This is an automatic notice, which then notifies you of the ban.

And everyone can get them, if their fanfic is reported. Your fanfic can follow all the rules, but if it's reported, down it goes.

It's all automatic and programmed to do that. There are very few rare cases where a staff member from that site will personally message you.

On DA it may be different.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Toadsanime In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-19 17:05:53 +0000 UTC]

So if something's reported there, it's almost instantly taken down without review?

If that's so, that's retarded.

Usually it's automated messages here too, but ocassionally you'll get a personal message; usually if they don't think the deviation is worthy of being taken down if you've reported it then they'll tell you why it's okay. Deviant reports are almost taken directly however, I think.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firestorm09 In reply to Toadsanime [2010-02-19 17:14:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it is. And yes, you're right it is retarded. There was a large complaint about it back a few years ago, but Fanfiction.net never resolved the issue.

I've never received a personal report from DA unless it was one of the staff replying to me in a note, answering a question I had about something, such as the time I asked about the security of DA accounts.

You can't tell me to take down my edits when you'ved edited the way Bulbasaur really looks like. So answer me this: Why is it okay for you to draw an image of Bulbasaur, yet alter the way he looks, but I can't do that with a photo-edit on an image?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaydreamer In reply to Kiyomi18Kaiba [2010-02-19 04:57:38 +0000 UTC]

There is a big difference between a completely hand drawn image and a photo edit. Your comparison doesn't even make sense. Fanart is still original work and is permitted by DA policy - photo edits of existing images are not.

I was merely giving you a warning. I've already reported everything, it's in your best interest to take it all down before the DA staff does. They will quite possibly ban you.

I had a friend who did this stuff too - she edited screenshots. I turned a blind eye because she was my friend, but eventually somebody else reported it all and got her gallery deleted anyway. She moved to livejournal and started uploading it there instead, which is what you should do. I'm not criticising what you do, but DA is not the place for this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kiyomi18Kaiba In reply to Kaydreamer [2010-02-19 05:06:59 +0000 UTC]

Well I have already sent a message regarding all of this to the DA staff. Until they give me a response back I will not be taking any drastic actions of removing anything out of my gallery unless they say so. If they say what I do isn't allowed then I will take it down. But if I do,then DA needs to really update their rules because of photo editing isn't allowed then people who make wallpapers will have to do the same because wallpapers are made through the same method of photoshop. Photo editing.

But as I said, I'm going to wait before I do anything and see what the DA staff tells me first. I do thank you though for being mature about this unlike a couple of other people who haven't be quite so pleasant.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaydreamer In reply to Kiyomi18Kaiba [2010-02-19 05:23:39 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately the wallpapers you're referring to are usually created by vector tracing in Adobe Illustrator - something DA turns a blind eye to. I don't think that belongs here either, but tracing seems to a A-OK according to DA. >_>

It's faaaar more involved then simple colour-editing though, so I think you're out of luck if you try presenting that argument to them.

If you want to avoid this kind of drama then I would suggest starting a blog, or using livejournal or something to make a gallery of your edits. Keep DA for art.

And that's ok, as I said, I have a friend who got her gallery deleted for doing the same thing. Unfortunately nobody warned her, she just woke up one morning and everything was gone.

Kyou-Usagi [2010-02-18 22:19:40 +0000 UTC]

Excuse me, but could you please take your deviations down? They are stolen and not your own person work.

DeviantART is not another form of Photobucket and posting artwork that you haven't personally created is against the rules.

Thank you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Firestorm09 In reply to Kyou-Usagi [2010-02-18 22:24:56 +0000 UTC]

I hate to break it to you, but... she didn't steal any of these pictures. She has her disclaimers up right in plain view. Further more, if you want to talk about personal work, whose work is truly personal? Fanfics using characters from anime are not a person's creation yet it's fine to use them, right?

Or about using those characters in a drawing you make yourself? Perhaps, if by your standards, everything should be considered stealing, right?

I suggest you look closely at her disclaimers, in which she states either where the pic came from, (Such as Sister Princesses), or she states she doesn't know where they came from. Meaning she can't remember which anime.

Don't accuse her without knowing the facts. Thanks.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kyou-Usagi In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-18 22:30:22 +0000 UTC]

I did look at her disclaimers, my dear.

There were a few, however, that did not state where they had come from and were not really edited at all.

All I was asking was for her to take down the ones that aren't credited.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I should have pointed out my statement more clearly.

p.s. -- Generally an artist should say which parts have been edited and which have not.

Some people are led to believe that most if not all of a picture is created by a particular deviant, not just minor edits.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Firestorm09 In reply to Kyou-Usagi [2010-02-18 22:39:47 +0000 UTC]

It's fine, no harm done. If any of those pics have Britannia, on them, it should be obvious where they came from.

But I suppose not everyone knows about Code Geass.

Still, that doesn't mean she can't go and edit those old pictures in, right?

Also, she's trying to find out where those un-edited pictures came from since it's been a few years. Likely, she'll have the disclaimers up when she returns tomorrow.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kyou-Usagi In reply to Firestorm09 [2010-02-18 22:45:12 +0000 UTC]

I see. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm not quite sure which ones were uncredited, but it was very nice of you to make things clear for me without calling me names.

It seems like a lot of people lose their tempers and revert to name calling when something angers them here on DeviantART. It's sad, really.

So I thank you for speaking in a civil manner.
