I had a hard time trying to figure out the profile picture also. what you have to do is get a photobucket account and the picture you want to use has to be resized at 50 by 50. On photobucket, upload the pic you want to use. once it is uploaded go Edit> Resize. Uncheck the box that says "keep porportioned" because if it is checked, your photo wont come out as 50 by 50. neither of the check marks should be checked. after you change the size, press "apply". then right click your newly saved image and copy it. then go to your folder in which you upload pics from and paste it there.
once your back on deviantART, go to your profile and up where your image should be (there is a smily face there right now) there should be a white sqaure that circles the box and it says 'change avatar', click on that. then go to change avatar button and use the image that you just resized. any questions just ask. haha, it took my forever to figure it out!
