I'm an artist with her hands in everything. I love charcoal, pastel, watercolor, and acrylic. I always have an idea for a new piece brewing in my head - always. I am never not thinking about something to create.I think that the human figure and portrait are the most beautiful and expressive subjects in art.

You're welcome! I've been hunting around for portraits taken with a Nikon D40, and yours are just so clear and pretty. I recently got a D40 and I've been tinkering around with it. I haven't figured out how to work the shutter speed and aperture together yet. But, it's trial and error. I've been taking it to work with me (I work at a coffee shop) and trying to get some interesting candids of people working on homework and drinking coffee and just unawares. It's working nicely. Unfortunately I still only have the 18-55 kit camera, so I have to get closer to some subjects then they might be comfortable with. And the farther I'm zoomed in, the more camera shake in apparent.
...And this was much longer then I'm sure you expected as a 'You're Welcome". But, I just wanted to know if you had any suggestions. ...Thanks!!

It's all good! Most of the photos I took are outdoor shots- which helped immensly. As far as adjusting shutter speed- there is a way. I just recently got my Nikon as well, and I still have yet to figure it out. I honestly know nothing about photography.. I just mess around and figure things out on my own until it feels right. As far as the shutter speed- look in the manual. There should be something in there as to how to adjust it when flash is disabled, etc, etc. I actually have been meaning to look that up! I procrastinate..

Lol, it's alright! Makes me feel like I'm not alone in figuring it out!
Luckily... My new semester of University starts next week, and I'm taking a digital photography class. And, they'll equip us with DSLRS... so I'm hoping that they'll be Nikon's, or I'll get to choose a Nikon, so I wont have to familiarize myself with new controls or get used to a different camera. Maybe, the teacher will let me use my own and then mayhaps give me pointers. AND MAYBE, they'll have lenses I can play with.
Who knows. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again!

Thats awesome! Sounds like a good deal.. my school offers no photography class- except 'Yearbook.' Where they don't even teach you anything about photography.. they just give you a P&S camera and make you take pictures of cheerleaders, and football games. Lame! I'm thinking about taking it next year though.. just for some more hands on experience with a camera. I'm rambling now! Haha.
