Yeah. I couldn't get myself a job before I got my car. Being able to search anywhere within a 30 minute drive helped a lot.

In Aus we get an L or learner license which we have to be on for a minimum of a year, and get 120 hours of experience, including 10 hours of night driving. While you're on your L's you can only drive if you have a fully licensed driver in the car with you.

It's about the same in Texas, with the addition that that other person must be over 21 years of age and you have to pass a full written exam in order to get your learner's permit in the first place.
