# About me

Having grown up in a large family of artists, one could say I was cursed from the get-go. Always encouraged to create, I started using cereal boxes to create Star Wars vehicle models out of the cardboard. It was only after High School that I really started to get interested in sculpting, now that interest has evolved into a passion, and as a freelance sculptor, I am loving every second of it!

When I purchased your Fine Art statue, it's given me a tracking number that says it was electronically notified on March 31st, but the tracking hasn't updated since then. Do you know if it has been shipped yet? My friend has already received hers, so I was wondering what the status of mine was

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-18 13:55:06 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, I haven't shipped it yet.  I decided to use the one I sent to your friend as the test case, before sending yours overseas.  I sounds like there was a issue with hers, so she is sending me images, it sounds like it was mistreated during shipping, even with "Handle with care" stickers on every side.  But I want to make sure it wasn't something to do with packaging.  I will keep you updated as well, but I should be shipping it next week.

Oh dear!   honestly, for the amount of money USPS charge for shipping, you'd think they could at least take care of fragile items! I'm sorry to hear that D: but thank you for letting me know! I was so worried something had happened and I'd miss out on it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-18 14:20:21 +0000 UTC]

I know.  If it has to do with packing, it is something I can fix, but if it is because someone else decided to play soccer with it, you can't really do much about it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-04-21 20:49:52 +0000 UTC]

Well if it's not too beat up, I can probably fix it up myself anyway, goodness knows how often I've had to do that!
But you're right, the best packing in the world is useless if the company doesn't take even a little care with it

Please do let me know when it's shipped! (unless Acme sends an email) because I just can't wait to get it Although customs will add onto to wait time.

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-21 21:45:08 +0000 UTC]

Hopefully that won't be necessary!  Your friend gave me a few good ideas, and I am much happier with the new packing.  I just need to gather the supplies so I can repack the statues that need sending.

I will be sure to let you know when it ships, it won't be much of a delay, Friday or early next week.

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-04-21 21:53:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh, good to hear that! May I ask what the new packing is like?

Oh, and after sharing your statue with another one of my collector friends (also in the US), he has purchased one too! He sadly missed out on the first one, but was really eager to get this one I'll let you know what he thinks of it, too!

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-22 00:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Sure, the original packing used expanding foam in a bag for the top and bottom.  The problem was it didn't hug the base tight enough, the top foam worked well though, and stopped vertical movement.  So this time, I am keeping the foam for the top, but the bottom is being replaced with a much more rigid foam that I cut to fit the box nice and snug, so there is no movement.  Then, with the same foam I build up the corners, and shape them so they fit the oval shape of the base, again, not allowing any movement.

Thanks for for spreading the word, I really appreciate it!

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-04-23 15:24:57 +0000 UTC]

Sounds good and secure! Yeah, I think the best thing is to just stuff it full until there's no room left for it to move, lol! At least that way, you know you did everything you could to keep it safe

No problem!! I think it deserves to sell lots, and I knew that my collector friends would be interested, so it'd be cruel not to share! I really hope you get to make one for the next movie too!

How much freedom did you get with the sculpt? Like, could you choose your own design or were you sent a pre-approved one that you had to work to?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-23 23:48:24 +0000 UTC]

Hopefully I can do one for HTTYD3!

I get to come up with the design myself, and then Dreamworks approves it.  The first statue was slightly different at the start, then Dreamworks had an idea to improve the design, but they really give me a lot of freedom with it.

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-04-25 06:07:22 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty cool! You're so lucky to have caught DreamWork's eye did they approach you about making sculptures, or did you have to submit for it? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really interested!!

and is he definitely being shipped Next week? Apologies if I sound impatient, I'm just so eager to get it That and the shipping label was printed nearly a month ago, and I'm worried there's some kind of "use-by" date that USPS will have

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-25 16:01:32 +0000 UTC]

No worries about the questions!  I contacted them, or more correctly, the people selling the first statue.  Then, once the license changed hands to Acme, DreamWorks helped me get in contact with them.

It is, I have made the styrofoam bases for the 3 statues I need to send, and will be finishing the packing today.  If the label is out of date, we can just get a new one printed, no problems!

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-04-28 17:56:49 +0000 UTC]

Oooh! And what about the very first statue you sold; how did you get in contact with DreamWorks initially? m

That's so good to hear! This year has been the absolute pits so far, so getting this statue gives me something to be really happy about. I can't wait! Do you have to organise for USPS to pick them up? I can't imagine lugging three of them to the post office, lol!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-29 20:14:55 +0000 UTC]

I just sent them a email stating I was a big fan of HTTYD and a sculptor, and it went from there!

Oh yeah, your statue has been shipped by the way!  Luckily, any domestic statues get picked up by FedEx, with international shipments, I need to stop by the post office.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-04-29 20:21:36 +0000 UTC]

Goodness, that's so lucky! You're the only sculptor to ever make HTTYD Fine Art  it must be amazing! I bet your pieces are among their most popular, too. I've never seen any other pieces in the same price range sell so well.

Aaah amazing, thank you!! Of course I'll let you know as soon as it arrives so you know it's safe did the tracking number change? I've been checking it religiously since Monday but nothing has shown up yet, although I know that it can take a few days to update once it's posted so it could just be that. I'm too excited now!!

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-04-29 20:33:53 +0000 UTC]

I am really surprised there aren't more statues, not just for DreamWorks, but animation in general.  I do feel very lucky to have the chance to work on something based on the HTTYD movies!  Right after I saw the first movie I felt the need to sculpt!

I would lie if I said I wasn't a little nervous, but the more I think about the one sent to your friend, and the damage it suffered, the better I feel.  The two pieces that broke off, really only came unglued, the resin itself didn't actually break.  I am more confident that it should arrive unscathed.

All of the paperwork stayed the same, so yes the tracking number stayed the same.

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-04-29 21:03:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm shocked too! I guess companies are more reluctant to take them on because they'd have to charge a lot more to make a profit, and then they might not sell enough to cover it? I don't know. Comic franchises seem to have millions of statues and they sell really well! Still, I'm glad you stepped in to fill the niche because sculptures are my favourite type of art! I was dusting my first statue the other day and I really can't emphasis how much I love the details, even years later Would you ever do anything for the other DreamWorks movies, though?

I'm sure it will be fine It sounds like you took every precaution you could!
At the end of the day, it is a statue, so it inherently comes with risks so we just gotta work with what we got, and hope the shipping company workers are in a good mood that day The first one was packed in a big box, and the only protection it had was being wrapped up in bubble wrap and some of those air bag thingies, and it wasn't damaged at all. I even bought a snowglobe from the US that arrived perfectly safe, and I'd think that the glass was even more fragile than that!

Awesome! Thanks so much for keeping me up to date! And answering all my questions

I am hoping to do something from Kung Fu Panda, but nothing is set yet.  The problem I run into with the HTTYD statues is they get very complex, and that makes the cost more, with KFP the statues could be more simple.

Yeah, I think it would have to be mishandled pretty bad for damage to occur.

Cheri-Bomb In reply to KyleMillard [2015-05-09 20:26:07 +0000 UTC]

Well I'm scheduling it's delivery for next Saturday after paying it's charge on Monday, so we'll see how it got here! I'm very excited and sure it will be fine

Oooh, those sound interesting! I bet you could make them really beautiful too, really go with the Chinese style! Which characters were you thinking of making? I like Tai Lung and Tigress!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-05-10 05:12:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the update!  I really do hope you like it!

Yeah, I think they would be fun to do.  Po would be first, no doubt, and like you, I like Tai Lung and Tigress, plus Oogway and Shen have great designs as well.  So we will see how it goes, if Po does well those are at the top of the list.

The nice thing about KFP statues would be that they are less complicated.  The newest Hiccup and Toothless statue is made of 51 different pieces, with many different colors, so each statue takes a long time to make, hence the high price.  So with a simpler statue the price can go down because they can be produced quicker, and more people can afford them.

Today was the best day ever, because your beautiful statue arrived!! Mine was miraculously in one piece, phew! The whole thing really is stunning and I've been admiring it's teensy details all day long Especially Toothless' eyes, dang. And I really like the pose too, it's all so perfect, like they stepped out of the film!
I thought you'd like to see it standing next to it's brother! nightfuryshoard.weebly.com/upl…
It's really great being able to compare them; like they're growing up before my eyes! Bring on the third one I was just wondering how many you sold so far, just so I can put down an "edition number" of sorts, if you don't mind that is ^^ I just love it so, so much!!!

I'd love to see KFP statues too! Heck, I'd buy Po just to ensure that others could get made! KFP is very popular, and like you said, if they're cheaper then they'll probably sell more. Lord Shen would be amazing! That tail, though. He'd be kinda complicated! Shifu would be good too!

KyleMillard In reply to Cheri-Bomb [2015-05-16 23:47:48 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely fantastic news!  I don't think you know how relieved I am to hear that it made it in one piece!  I am also very pleased to hear you like it!  I love the picture, thanks!  So far only 5 have sold, but they haven't really been advertised yet, and there will be 5 or so at Comic Con.

I think out of all of the KFP characters, Lord Shen would be the most difficult, but it would be a very striking statue!  If they sold well Shifu would be a must, and his size brings up something I have been thinking about.  I would want all of the characters to be in scale, and Po would be rather large, so most of the other statues would be a good size too, but there are some smaller characters like Shifu, Viper, and most of all Mantis, that would still be small.  It is something I need to think about.

After showing off that statue to one of my friends, they've gone and bought one too! It should be an order to France Everyone just loves this statue so much as soon as they see it! I think all of my friends are going to end up buying it, lol!

I really hope they let you do some KFP statues, maybe for the third movie Disney have quite a few statue lines, most of them small, but do you think DW would ever do anything like that?

Hey, that is fantastic to hear!  Thank you very much for spreading the word!

I hope to be talking to Acme about KFP statues soon.  The timing would be perfect to release a statue when the third is in theaters.  I am surprised Dreamworks doesn't have a line of statues, well, I guess what I have done kinda counts!
