KyoAWare In reply to cozza1 [2013-05-14 22:59:01 +0000 UTC]

No problem. I actually like the exaggerated features and I do in fact believe you aren't 'ugly' as you say, I like your technique for the picture and I must ask, what material did you use? Also, yes Llamas are amazing.

cozza1 In reply to KyoAWare [2013-05-14 23:03:57 +0000 UTC]

I actually have a habbit of exaggerating the features to be completely fair, not to this extent though. My lecturers always said I had a unique drawing technique even though I'm not always aware that I am doing it. I decided to put this to use in this peice. And believe it or not, I just used an A3 fabriano sheet and used two of my 7B pencils. I'm quite heavy duty with my pencils, I use them up really fast. And yes Llamas are amazing, my friends often say I look like one hehe.

KyoAWare In reply to cozza1 [2013-05-14 23:07:39 +0000 UTC]

I see. Yes, I was assuming charcoal but wanted to check. I can certainly see how you run through pencils QUITE fast if your works are any indication. I tend to use hatching/cross-hatching so my graphite covers less area and thus conserved more. I give you props however as I can't use the style that you do.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cozza1 In reply to KyoAWare [2013-05-14 23:11:45 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much although I do use cross hatching sometimes. There was one particular peice that I did that I used 23 9B pencils on. Although this peice was as tall as me, which is 5ft 7" long. I was extremely impressed with this peice and so was my tutor apparantly as she bought it off of me. Of course, it was still very heavy duty. I understand why you thaught it was Charcoal though, many people seem to think the same because my work can almost appear black sometimes.

KyoAWare In reply to cozza1 [2013-05-14 23:30:44 +0000 UTC]

That and in fact the area of effect. I don't find myself using pencils to cover that kind space in such a fashion. It clashes with my aesthetic mostly and my autonomous technique simply won't have any of it. Muscle memory at it's finest.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cozza1 In reply to KyoAWare [2013-05-14 23:46:43 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, muscle memory is the worst obsticle to overcome in the art industry. I mean delicacy is an impossible feat for me, as is light media such as water colour. I have always been terrible at watercolour, and yet impasto oils is what I am a genious at. I suppose everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.

KyoAWare In reply to cozza1 [2013-05-14 23:55:03 +0000 UTC]

I have no chance in salty hell with mediums that I feel can't do serious and strenuous detail with, which effectively crosses watercolor, oils, paint, charcoal, etc off the list of tools I can use. I haven't done it since...I can't even remember. Hell, it took awhile just to get accustomed to using Copic markers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cozza1 In reply to KyoAWare [2013-05-15 11:46:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I tend to add a lot of detail in too, I have always been the one to just unconsciously keep on adding and adding not knowing when to finish. But with oils in particular, I suppose it depends on what medium you mix it with. If I mix it with turps or linseed oil, then I can easily acheive minut details, and yet out of the tube or mixed with Linseed still oil, you tend to get a thick impasto effect which is really difficult to add tiny details with.

KyoAWare In reply to cozza1 [2013-05-23 12:19:23 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. As stated before, the fact tat you work in such a manner is impressive. Might I inquire if you had a mentor?

cozza1 In reply to KyoAWare [2013-05-23 22:42:46 +0000 UTC]

Well my pencil skills were aquired through just brutal everyday practice since the age of five. I was mainly just trying to copy my older brother who is an incredible pencil artist, but I gradually began to develop my own induvidual style as I moved away from my brother and began developing my independadnt interests. I began to dislike photorealism and wanted to add quirks to my style, which is more then likely where I started exaggerating specific important features. For my painting however, I was unaqainted to until I met an artist who was willing to teach me the entire basics, like mediums and styles. But other then that, again I pretty much developed them on my own.

Then deleted the art.
