its gonna be a long one fam, and I'm sure we'll get to know each other better along the way~
here's a quick question:
if you knew you could do anything,
and everything,
what is the one thing you would never do.
for example maybe you would never die. or never kill, or never forget what's truly important.. anything goes really <✨3

LiterarySerenity In reply to Ladnavar [2019-12-06 00:37:12 +0000 UTC]
That's a difficult question. But, I think I would choose never to forget who I am. ^_^
Does that sound good?

Ladnavar In reply to LiterarySerenity [2019-12-06 21:34:02 +0000 UTC]
yes! if you have a good picture of who you are and would like to be, it is very import to hold on to it.
personally I've never been good with memory, and I think it relates to my focusing abilities. I have a very sharp focus (bad at multitasking) and when my body tries to keep along with this focus a ton of stuff get left behind and are forgotten.... even important things.
I guess most people exp3rience something like this, but it's still annoying as hell!!

True. I think all of us go through that experience from time to time--wanting to be even a little bit faster and more focused on what's on front of us.
How would you answer your own question, by the way, about one thing you would never want to do?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Ladnavar In reply to LiterarySerenity [2019-12-07 15:58:46 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure really. I find that most things we dont want to do are either boring or scary to us, and there's a lot.. but all of it doesn't really matter. it's like placebo in my opinion, what we care about. I would maybe never want to be a slave to my own illusions, if that makes sense. I believe that would make me truly free, as I used to be in the distant past, as I can be at my best ✨
but I just like interesting questions, lol. if you have one please ask ahead <3
how long have you been writing for btw, and what is your favourite art to make??

LiterarySerenity In reply to Ladnavar [2019-12-08 06:06:56 +0000 UTC]
Oh yes, it does make sense to me that you'd want to be honest with yourself and the world (if I fully understood). Doing so would help us to grow as individuals, I think.
Goodness. I've loved to write ever since childhood, although getting to study creative writing upon entering college made a huge difference for me. I love metafiction and am working on several longer stories. However, while here on DA, I've wound up mostly focusing on narrative poems--which are a lot like flash fictions, in my humble opinion.
How about you?

Ladnavar In reply to LiterarySerenity [2019-12-09 15:42:22 +0000 UTC]
flash fiction-like!! yes, indeed I feel the same for poetry, in the way that is an extremely flexible vessel for storytelling. you can make anything into poem, and the same goes for songs and of course, stories. art truly is limitless, and these vessels/types of art are interesting vehicles for our travels ✨🛥️ 🛸✨
I've been writing since little as well~ on and off throughout my years. but I also draw and make music so it is rare for me to focus exclusively on writing, even for a day. NaPoWriMo and the sort usually help with that tho
I love stories, and to be honest that is what I would like to be doing even right now. working on my new big-scale fiction, but I'm finding it hard to begin.. to induce inspiration seems not enough, and I am a bit afraid of commitment, but hopefully soon I'll be working on it daily.
you study creative writing? that sounds pretty awesome! what kind of stories are you woking on?

It's wonderful to hear you have such a wide range of artistic talents! I'm sure your knowledge of each one helps to influence your work in various ways. ^_^
Sometimes it can be difficult to get going on larger writing projects; beginning small and working your way along one piece at a time can help.
Thanks! Actually, I got my M.A. degree in Literature and Writing Studies, with a creative thesis focused on metafiction. I'm addition, several of the stories I'm working on now deal with metafictional elements in varying degrees. I like exploring the relationship between writers and their characters, among other things.
What are themes or topics you like to explore in your writing?

Ladnavar In reply to LiterarySerenity [2019-12-10 16:23:59 +0000 UTC]
metafiction?! wow ~o~ I wanna know more about that!! it feels like something I have certainly encountered through my art in the past, and am probably deeply fond of
my stories usually have strong multiversal-elements, meaning anything is possible. I use special abilities, spiritual and metaphysics elements, together with ample world-building ofc, to make worlds of my own, fantasy worlds, where my stories take place.
the themes are usually Reality, personal growth, exploration (becaz exploring and learning is awesome) and a bit of romance because I am quite the idealistic romantic in heart <:3
I feel like the essence of my writing is 'adventure' but the kind of adventure that has never been seen before. an adventure you have to experience for yourself, in order to understand the truth about Everything.
haha, it sounds a bit embarrassing.. that essense is mostly what I seek, and not something by any ways easy to accomplish. it's possibly the ideal view of my writing at its best..
how about you? what themes do you usually explore in your writing, and how do you go about exploring them?
also, can you tell me more about metafictional elements in general?? and maybe about your creative thesis!! sounds super awesome ✨

Wow, sounds like you're a refreshing fantasy writer! Exploring different concepts like reality and personal growth are awesome, and they actually do hit close to home for Metafiction as well.
Metafiction focuses on using writing to examine fiction, in a way--including the way stories reflect or influence our lives, the status of fictional characters, and even the ways we structure our own reality. Scenarios where characters Break the Fourth Wall, argue with the narrator, or are aware they are in a story are among its more notable techniques.
Here it is:

It's fun but very existential at its heart. Actually, inspired by your desire to know more about it, I posted a poem that showcases its wonders (if you'd like to take a look). Because seeing Metafiction in action is sometimes the best way to explain what it looks like, and the themes it explores-many of which I explore in most of my works as well.
I love experimenting with writing, literary consciousness, and reality.

awesome!! I'm so glad I helped inspire you to write something so playfully intriguing <3 such a good idea, and it helped me realise how deep my connection with metafiction actually is..!
my final work for university for example; it was a very strange drama.. three aspects of my personality, played by me and my brothers, had a small clash. the climax was a scene where my character was left alone and began speaking (for the first time) in parts of my poems from DA! and he actually began shouting 'THE CLIMAX IS UPON US!!' hahaha
can't believe I actually graduated with that film 😅 anyway if I wasn't on my phone rn I would certainly share some of my metafictional works with you. I would love for you to read them and share your expert opinion with me!
one recent metafictional (or post-modern?) idea I have began feeling a lot is that my art is but a part of my soul. a personality/picture torn apart from me and left stranded in space-time. which means the message of the art is not my message, but the message of a part of me that will never be me again.
I can't explain it very well but when you write it's usually something you want to convey to yoursel, of someone else in your life, correct?
you could view the art you make as something separate from yourself, especially since it's existence means you have succeeded at conveying what you wanted and could.
it exists, and it exists complete, which is why it can speak to us. it is not us, but a fiction of our creation, basically
if your stories usually explore similar themes as the metafictional poem I just read, then my interest for them has only grown!! and to hear that you too hold reality as one of your main theme makes me very excited for our future conversations ~

Wonderful. It's great to meet a fellow lover of metafiction. I must admit that although I'd meant to post a poem on metafiction for a while, figuring out the best way to explain it to you helped to focus what I included in the final piece.
Congratulations on graduating from your university, and with such a unique project. Were you a film major, then? There are definitely quite a few metafictional elements in having parts of your personality interact. Although it actually sounds within the realm of the Psycho-Analytical lens in literary criticism as well, since it sounds as if it is dealing directly with the psychology of the main character--which is also very cool.
I believe I understand what you mean. Our characters are parts of ourselves that we place out in the world, and they can go on living in their own ways beyond us. It's an amazing sort of magic.
Awww, thank you! I look forward to discussing Metafiction with you more as well. ^_^

ControChoices: The Stanchurian Candidate
Based on ControChoices from Intrancity and a suggestion from Jediuser
Show: Gravity Falls
User's Rating: OK
A.R. Rating: Great-Amazing
Opinion: This is an episode that I don't think is bad by any means, I just think it didn't live up to it's potential. This is an episode about Stan running for the mayor of Gravity Falls. Now that is a situation for Stan Pines that is a comedic gold mine. However, I don't think the episode really takes advantage of this concept and kind of neuters Stan in a way in favor of a plot point where Mabel and Dipper control him with a tie to make sure he doesn't mess up. Now granted, that makes sense to make the candidate look good, but imagine how great it would be if Stan got ahead in the race because he was unpredictable and unruly? That would make for a much funnier episode in my opinion, as we can see the Stan we're all so accustomed to, rather than a mind controlled puppet.
Another thing that bothered me was the
