Yep
I love making / wearing period costumes to events and conventions.
Then of course there's the obligatory princess part of the wardrobe but it's all good fun.
Over the last couple of years I have been making them for friends and then friends of friends and having fun making costumes for them.

That is so nice to read!
We love visiting conventions and fairs and the such
We started for ourselves as well and then indeed for friends and now it is our livelyhood, such a blessing. What we also really love is the fact that you can make a difference for a person you know? A chance for them to feel really beautiful and special. When we started doing it for others we had no idea it could really mean something for people. So that is a very happy and beautiful bonus

Thanks
Nice to meet someone who has the same passion.
Conventions, cosplay events, all that kind of stuff is so much fun. Yeah, I know some think it's silly to dress up when you're an adult and do these things - but I love it!

I totally get that! The ones I've made for clients, seeing that look on their face the first time they try it on, that smile - that's awesome
I also like to make dresses for the taller or larger lady because I refuse to stick to the stereotype that princesses (especially Disney ones) have to be a certain height and size.
Everyone deserves to be who they want to be, right?
Being tall it's always be such a nightmare to get things to fit me which is why I make my own!

Currently working on an Aurora gown for a friend and a massive pink and white Southern Belle taffeta gown for a client. The last one has been so much fun to make I'd like to keep it or at the very least try it on - lol
I'll never be able to make enough to run a business like you, but enjoy doing the commissions that I have.
Wish you all the best with your business - your gowns are really beautiful!

Yes, very nice to meet indeed! Do you also have a Facebookpage or something?

Here in the Netherlands it is also frowned upon (by some) to dress up, but hey; at least we are having fun and have a little magic in our lives

And YES! That smile is so awesome We love it!

Also, we so agree with you that it doesn't matter what your bodytype is, everybody deserves to feel beautiful. We truly enjoy it to make something for larger ladies So nice to see that you feel the same way! I ( Sanne) am tall too (180 cm) and somewhat fuller so that is always a challenge too

Oh yes, we get that you want to try the things on! Sometimes it's hard to let go of some things right? We always try to do a photoshoot with our costumes before they go to a customer, makes for nice portfolio material ánd you get to try on the costume, yay!

Wish you all the best too, thank you for all the compliments <3 Hugs from the Netherlands, Anja & Sanne

Indeed it is
No, I don't have any other pages at present, I've only just started with the whole online thing
Until now, all my work (which is enough to keep me going) has been by word of mouth.
Folks kept saying I should start a page - so here I am.

I couldn't agree more!
You're never to old to dress up and have fun. Conventions are so much more fun if you go in costume and it's just nice to be someone else for a day.
It's also nice because I'm really quite shy in person but at a convention when I'm in costume it just feels different, if that makes sense.
I often go to see friends in the UK, so we arrange holidays around conventions which is great fun

Yep, that smile makes all the work worthwhile

That's so true. No matter what your body type is, you should be able to be whoever you want.
If a client is a size 24 and wants to be a Disney Princess, then I'm only too happy to help.

Lol Sanne, you're the same height as me!

I did try the southern belle on at the weekend!
I needed to see how it moved with the underskirt and as it has a corset back I knew I could get into it.
It needed the test run and seeing as no-one else was present..... I just had to do it myself
It was lovely to wear, although I felt I should be walking in picturesque gardens with my parasol to shade me

Sometimes it is hard to let creations go but if I did that I'd never make any money and my home would be bursting at the seams with all the dresses!

Hugs for you both from me

There's lots of Belle cosplays around, done one myself for comic-con a few years ago, but you really got the look.
Did you make your dress or buy it from a company?

You're welcome
Well, you did a stunning job on the gown. What did you use to make it? Did you use a dress pattern or just wing it?
Currently putting an Aurora dress together and really need to make another Belle as I sold my last one and I kind of miss it now.

Thanks a lot^^
I used satin, but this fabric is a little bit thicker as usual satin. Here it calls Brautsatin (one to one translation = Bridesatin, but this word doesn't exist in english).
Yes I used a pattern for the top, that's a stretch fabric ...it was very expensive only for a top...but I loved that yellow, it was perfect^^
Oh! You will make Aurora? That is pretty cool! I want to do it too this year but I must admit, I had no lust to do. But I will make it someday ( I still hope this year).
Which colour you chose? Pink or blue?
Why you sold your Belle Outfit? I couldn't do that^^"

Yes, I use bridal satin in a lot of dresses, that or taffeta. Both are really good fabrics which give a wonderful look without being too heavy, especially if you want a really big skirt.... and I love a really big skirt!

Did you use a hooped underskirt or a layered petticoat with your Belle?
Both have their advantages but I love layers so I tend to go for massive layered petticoats
Well, sometimes you have to have the hoops but I still layer tulle over them.

Yes, I'm making Aurora for a friend, so doing the 'test run' on myself. Been a nice fun project to do.
Although she wants the pink version I wasn't sure if I should make the blue one to test for myself and couldn't decide.
In the end I flipped a coin and came up pink. Still might go back and make the blue another time.
Picture now posted in my gallery if you want to see her

A couple of years ago I had to get some money together in a hurry so I listed a large part of my costume wardrobe on eBay. I was sad to see them go but it was a matter of necessity. That's why both Belle gowns (yellow and pink), Ariel (pink) and Snow (traditional) are on my remake list.

Do you get a chance to wear your Belle often or was it just a one-off for your lovely photo shoot?

FuriaeTheGoddess In reply to LadySharaRommonest [2019-03-09 16:44:50 +0000 UTC]

True but I must admit, I don't like fabrics which shines it can be too much. I knew Belle should shine because her dress should be look golden. But totally golden fabric looks stupid so I used yellow bridal satin. Like in the cartoon, it should be the colour gold but Disney used yellow.
I use a hoop underskirt. It's not so heavy to wear it. In the beginning, as I tried a hooped underskirt for the first time I was a little bit scared but as I weared it, I was surprised how easy it is to wear him^^ Of course you can push a skirt very big but then you need a lot of fabrics. It would cost me a lot of money which I haven't. So I think the hoop underskirt is a pretty good way. And even the Ladies from the old eras wearing such underskirt I think^^
Tulle is a good choice too. I want to use a tulle underskirt for Aurora. There you can decide how much you want to push your skirt and Aurora hasn't sooo much too push. The tulle should just help, that the skirt doesn't fall together^^

Your dress of Aurora looks good^^ I faved it. I want to make it blue. Because blue is one of my favorite colour. And Pink is a colour I don't like^^"

I understand. In this case you had no choice. I can imagine that it hurts you but I know, that there are more important things then a dress. But you have the skill to make them again and now you know how it works^^

In two weeks I wear Belle again. On a convention I wear her every year. And this time, maybe I have prince Adam by my side. My boyfriend wants to cosplay something with me and we decide for prince Adam. He won't be a prince but he do it for me^^ But it is on me now. I must sew the costume and the time is running. It's not so much anymore I must do but it needs time...It is stressful for me to work under pressure XD

Yes, it's that balance between the look of the cartoon image and what you're making. A little shine is good, too much is blinding - lol
Indeed, I've seen some purely gold Belle gowns and it just doesn't look right. You have to go for that yellow material.

I guessed you'd wear one for your Belle.
I have a whole box of hoop skirts, ranging through 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 hoops, some layered, some flounced, some plain and go from 'small' to 'I can't get through the door' size
It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate over the years!
I made a Cinderella gown for a friend years ago and the sweep of her hem was 20 feet!
Yep, they're really easy to wear and lightweight so really good for cosplaying in the summer when it's hot.
Too many layers can be punishing in the heat!

Indeed, money is the enemy of every seamstress! Your vision is always limited by your budget!

Thank you - that's kind of you
It's been a fun project but she looks good with just a basic 10 layer petticoat underneath. I just used a 20 because I love volume but you can see she's not that big.
Okay, I'm adding the blue Aurora dress to the 'must make' list. This one was fun and it shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as I can find the right material.
The shop had some wonderful rich blue satin-like poly in there last week. Will have to see tomorrow.
That flip of the coin can just be done again.

Yes, it was hard to see them go but it was a matter of priorities. I do miss them but when I make them again my skills are a lot better than they were so I'll get them back, they'll just be better this time

That sounds like a lot of fun. Is it a big convention?
I often travel to the UK to see friends and go to conventions with them at the same time. Best holidays ever
Awww, he sounds sweet to cosplay that for you. My other half is the same. He loves cosplaying stuff but getting him to do anything Disney is soooo hard
I really hope you get the costume done in time and maybe we'll get to see some pictures.

Sorry for the long reply. I must do a costume^^"
Ha, ha! Yes, true. Totally golden fabric for a Belle gown doesn't really Looks good.

OH!!! You have so many hoop skirts? Wow! Than you can choose whatever you want and can do dresses is sizes in whatever you want^^ Amazing!
Right, I like hoop skirts so much because of these reasons. I was on a convention last weekend and I saw again, how easy it is to wear it. And practical. Even if there is a small passage, you can push the skirt together and can go through. I like the Looks of peoples, who never saw this before because they don't know what you can do with a hoop skirt XD

Money is always a problem for every hobby, I guess.

20 layers? That's a lot! I don't know if I will use so much. I hope I can do it with more less layers. But I know, you need a lot with tulle...

I'm still searching for fabric for Aurora. But it's not so easy. I want to make her top of stretch fabric, like I did with Belle. It is very practical because it fits on your body perfectly and it doesn't wrinkle.

Yes, I understand how hard it must be. But the memories will stay and I guess, you have some photos of your first dresses^^

That convention I was, it's just a bookfair. But there a lot of cosplayers and it was fun^^
I did it! I've really did it to finish the costume for my boyfriend. It was hard and stressful. I had no time for details and no time to make it correctly. But I will mend it now from time to time. Now there is no pressure anymore. I wasn't satisfied with it but anyways, I made a costume for him^^
What do your boyfriend cosplay already?

Hi there,
So sorry for the delay in replying - see my status for details.

Yes, sometimes finding the right fabrics and the right shade fro costumes can be a real nightmare. Thankfully online retailers are great because they can send samples for nothing (or very little money) and it helps with decision making.

Lol - yes, I'm a bit of a hoarder. When I get all my stuff out it's like Scarlett O'Hara's closet in here
Just got myself a new smaller size 7 hoop tiered net crinoline. It's the design as my giant one but about the size of my 6 hoop 1 layer crinoline so it's more 'sturdy'.
Comes out really nice and sits well under my Disney costumes.

I'm with you there, they're fun and easy to wear and perfect for conventions.
I hope you had a good time and saw your pictures of you as Belle
Yes, people not used to hoop skirts always have funny reactions!

Too true, not enough money and too many things to make. When I feel like that I remind myself I only have the one body and can't wear all the dresses at once!

Yes, it's a lot of layers but I love layers sometimes. Go for the historical feeling of all the layers ladies had to wear to be dressed properly.
At the moment though, that new 7 hoop is becoming my 'go to' underskirt.

Yes, that can be tricky to find in the right shade. I tend to make things with straightforward satins, taffetas, polished cottons, stuff like that.
I always worry that stretch fabric will lose its integrity after time. I'd rather go for it or make it adjustable with corsetry if I can.

Well, I added Belle back to the list but I think I might just do my own take on the dress and have a little fun with it.
The current Cinderella project is giving me ideas.....

Hey, as long as you have fun, that's all that matters. Plus, Belle loves books so it really works!
I can see from the pictures that you got it done in time. At least you can go back to it without the stress now but it still looked good enough for the pictures so don't be too hard on yourself.

We cosplay mainly Star Wars because that's his first love.
If I can get him to do Disney then it's often Ariel and Eric.
Done A couple of Doctor Who ones as well
