I just started using this so.... yeah, I'm new. Stasi wanted me to join so I did. I wish I had access to the darkrooms... I miss being able to walk in and use them and not have to pay to use a darkroom where people don't know me... not fun.

that's the truth.
i miss the darkrooms too.
i miss shooting on a regular basis.
work kind of puts the kabbash on that ... even when you are your own boss.
just got a nifty bit of equipment for my arsenal though...
a 9x12 wacom tablet... don't even have it plugged in yet.
it should make my life much more interesting though on the design side of things.

I've never actually used a wacom tablet. I want to play around with one though. Hmmm... I wonder where I could try one out.
On a side note I'm teaching a wet plate workshop at Andrews at the end of February. Should be fun.

of course you'll be around when i am going to be gone.
i'd actually like to come sit in, i would find it rather interesting.
but i'll be living in a van on the way to florida then.
that sucks.

Oh thats too bad! Of course it would happen that way. Oh well. Maybe if this one works out well I'll be asked to do it again, who knows.

Excellent work - I always like to see photographs made in this way. I imagine it must be quite a difficult process to master?

I think getting the basics of the process is easy but what is really daunting is trying to get all the right chemicals and equipment together and then trusting yourself to get the formulas right... but its a lot of fun.

I'm a big fan of your sister as a model, do you take all her photos?

I've taken a lot of pictures of her but she takes a lot of self portraits too.

hello)
can you tell me how do you make you "old photos"?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Lexand-Lee In reply to ruzhruzhruzh [2009-01-04 16:04:42 +0000 UTC]
I use the traditional collodion wet-plate process (civil war era). Most people familiar with current art photographers will know Sally Mann's work, its the same process she uses.
How detailed do you want in the "how-to" department? Its kind of a long processes...

Its made on glass. I coat the glass with collodion and sensitize it in silver. Then I put it in my camera (instead of film). The result is a one-of-a-kind image on glass.
