Oh yeah, and I also disagree on your apostrophe in ropes - it's a straight plural, nothing is required....

I don't think so, but I was always taught, admittedly in the '70s an apostrophe signified a missing letter - and there is no missing letter....

Sorry, I realise I'm being a boring pedant, but have a squiz here: [link]

Have a look at rules 4 and 10 - I think you meant ropes to be a plural possession (the harsh caress OF the ropes, yes?)

all the best.

Thanks for the critique

However, the apostrophe in the sixth line denotes a possessive - I could be wrong, it's a long time since I was at school, and I might have remembered falsely, but I don't think so.

Anyway, thanks from a whingin' pom

No probs, always happy to help.

The possessive "its" has no apostrophe, it only has an apostrophe for the contraction of "it is" - always gets people that one "its" is actually a pronoun so it doesn't have the same rules as normal nouns.

All the best!

Hiyo! Justin here. I made a new account. Probably not gonna post much, but I couldn't be bothered sorting through the pretentious bullshit in my old account. Now I can post pretentious bullshit in this new account.

long overdue accolade:

you do have tremendous taste in poets, no doubt due to your hungry attention to education in postmodern literature and/or yearn for pure human expression. and, sincerely, thank you for looking through my work, whether its intent was educational or expressive (or both)!

reading suggestions: phillip levine, louise gluck, john berryman, denise levertov, michael palmer, sharon olds

surely you've read at least one of the above, but i think you'll relish them all in some retainable way

keep writing!
