# About me

Hello, and welcome to my gallery. I enjoy building and painting scale models of various subjects, but especially dinosaurs! I made this gallery to showcase the interesting hobby of customising and repainting commercially available dinosaur toys and figures. These days, many of the toy dinosaurs made by companies such as Wild Safari, Collecta and Papo are museum-quality scale models that can be purchased at very competitive prices. These are fun to collect in their own right, but with a little remodelling and repainting they can be transformed into unique individual pieces.

I get a lot of enjoyment from dreaming up elaborate colour schemes for my repainted dinosaurs, and researching the subject of each model helps me keep informed of the rapidly developing field of dinosaur palaeontology. Dinosaurs were very different from the large mammals of today in that they probably had excellent colour vision. This raises the intriguing possibility that dinosaurs may have frequently used striking colours for display and signalling purposes, just as so many birds and tropical fish do today. So if you like colourful dinosaurs you've come to the right place!

I hope you enjoy this gallery and that it might even inspire some of you to have a go at repainting dinosaur models for yourselves. I have always found it to be a very enjoyable and satisfying hobby. Incidentally, my profile name honours of Archaeopteryx lithographica, "the first bird", arguably one of the most important fossils ever discovered because of the role it played in the early days of evolutionary theory. The fossil (pictured above) is so famous that we tend to forget that in life Archaeopteryx was actually a very small animal - probably around the size of a pigeon and certainly no larger than a crow!

All of your Custom figures are AMAZING, some must take a long time, eh?

Thankyou Diloporaptor, I really appreciate your kind words! To answer your question, the first few repaints I did took ages, but now that I have had some practice I find I can usually do a complete dinosaur figure repaint in a couple of weekends (assuming I can find some time for painting!). Remodelling or converting figures is more complicated, and at least doubles the time needed. Thanks again for your interest, your comment really made my day!
