oh man... is that what that thing is called?  i remember playing doom 2 as a kid and seeing it.  didn't know it had a name.  i would love to draw something like that.  it's just a matter of cramming it in amongst a bunch of other things  so, as much as i've love to... i can't see it happening soon.  it's still great suggestion and i'm glad i know what it's called, now.

Amazing work! Are most of the digital ones done as pencils first and then scanned in? How long does it take you to finish a piece?

LostKeep In reply to RamblingRhubarb [2017-07-15 21:40:54 +0000 UTC]

i think the majority of what i have posted start off as graphite.  i then scan them and paint them.  as far as timing for each piece... it's a little different for each one.  if i had a gun to my head, i think i could pull one of the more detailed pieces off in a week - week-and-a-half.  in general, these little pieces that i scan and then color take about 3 weeks of working after work to get it to a place where i like it.  i'm getting faster, though.  having a full-time job does take up most of my time... like everyone else on the planet  so, i have to fight for my time to work on the the art i love to make.  each piece does get faster, though.  merely going through the steps of the process makes it all run faster and more smoothly.  ideas come more quickly and the execution happens more quickly each time.

thanks for asking.  and, i'm glad you like the work

Oh man. 3 weeks for even the little ones?!! What patience! What keeps you motivated through all the rote rendering work?

LostKeep In reply to RamblingRhubarb [2017-07-20 07:07:40 +0000 UTC]

the sense of satisfaction from seeing a piece through to the end plays a huge role in motivation.  and from one angle, if you've established a satisfying technique and a sufficient process, then merely sticking it out and seeing it through will yield satisfying results.  it seems to have been the case for me.  i'm finally getting down a process that i enjoy and helps get the image i see in my head, onto the paper/canvas/screen/into other peoples' heads.  it's exciting to see what other things are possible to unlock from one's imagination

also, i like to have something that i've created to share with others.  knowing that others will get enjoyment and engagement from something you made with your own hands [relatively speaking] sustains the motivation, as well.

great question!

haha, man. Your sentiments are so wholesome, it's encouraging. It makes me itch to go back and pick up the long pieces that I've given up on. One day, I'll discover my satisfying technique and sufficient process, too.

Thanks for sharing, and I'll be sure to keep watching your works!
