It really is fans like you that ruin it for everyone. It makes me sad to be associated in similar fandoms with people like you, who throw out insults like “fucktard” instead of just allowing us to be. I simply poked fun at the #AntiDanVsFanPairings group because of their inclusion of pictures by slash-artists, Dan Vs slash artists at that! It seemed silly. Personally, I usually check the gallery of artists whose artwork I request to make sure I am not offending their sensibilities or doing something they dislike. The artists actually didn’t know what the group was for and were upset by the inclusion. They thought “anti fan pairings” meant Dan x OC not anti-slash! A couple of them removed the artwork after I informed them of the actual intentions of the group. *shrug* It is in the past now that we all know what this group is for. We don’t mind if they hate the pairings, though we don’t see the point of animosity in our beautiful fandom.

Look honey, it is called “shipping” for a reason. We make relationships because we enjoy them. Characters are like beautiful legos that can be broken and reattached at will with whomever, whenever. The possibilities are endless because they are NOT real. We can do as we please without fear of persecution. You act as if we are stupid, but being so damned adamant about “canon” makes you just as fanatical as the fanboys and fangirls you claim you hate. People are naturally going to migrate towards what pleases them visually, sexually, and emotionally. If a certain type of character or relationship structure is appealing, then this type of pairing is going to be what they drift towards.

Shenny is a perfect example of this phenomena at work: You may dislike the pairing and claim the evidence of them being “imperfect” for one another, but that imperfection is what makes Shenny-Shippers love them. Personally, I tend to migrate towards pairings with high amounts of animosity and a tendency towards bickering. The types of lovers that couple be classified as “opposites attract” so this ship was an immediate favorite that quickly skyrocketed to “OTP” status in a few weeks. I enjoy the possibilities this relationship presents in my own head-canon that would not be present in the desires of someone who does not see the appeal of the pairing. This is shipping and this is what a good ninety-percent of fans do.

I think what both confuses and amuses me is when people like you get all freaked out like you haven’t seen it before. You got into a new fandom and it’s rife with incest, yaoi, and rule thirty-four? What are the odds!? I don’t see the point of freaking out about something that is never going to stop or acting as if you’re superior for dislike something that a huge group of people enjoy. Why don’t you just black-tag your triggers on your Tumblr and move on?

The thing is: canon doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter if the character is canonically heterosexual, married, or even realted. This is simply a new obstacle for the fanfiction writer, the doujin-artist, or the animator to get past on their way to a new story. Canon has not mattered since the ANCIENT GREEKS, for god-sakes. Prior to copywrite, people used to re-write sections of the Illiad to shovel in their new pairings. Early fanfiction!

I suppose it always amuses me most when people freak out like you seem to or last out against fans, even relatively calm fangirls like myself. Especially in fandoms where the creators and actors playing said characters don’t care or support alternative shipping. Jim Parsons supports Shenny. Dan Mandel doesn’t care who ships slash/femmeslash in Dan Vs. If they don’t care, why do you have to make a stink?

Support your own ships and have some fun.

I do not support any ships of any kind. And no, it is you who ruins the fanbase by forcing together 2 characters who technically will never be together. Leave the characters as they are. They are not yours. They belong to the companies that made them.

Shows belong to their creators. The people who came up with the concept for the show itself and many of these people LOVE seeing what the fans can do. I regret to inform you but it is us, the fangirls and fanboys who make shows what they are. Our obsessive nature sells merchandise and gets the shows seen by others. I mean, I am getting a Dan Vs tattoo because this show has lead me to so many wonderful people. It was the Dan x Chris shipping that took me out of a writing shell I had been trapped in and put me on my feet again and I couldn't be happier. My original stuff has taken a turn for the better because of the pure love I feel when writing for such complex characters and the possibility of their relationship. Why must you spit on others' happiness? Why must we be the delusional ones? Is it because we are enjoying the show in a way you cannot seem to achieve.

I suppose you will never know the joy I have, and I feel sorry for you. I have fanfiction that has helped people through depression and stopped suicide. I met some of best friends because of a mutual interest in a fandom, not just a show but a true fandom. In fact, I met my boyfriend because we both share a similar obsession for a particular ship (it's even heterosexual, le gasp) and we've been together five years now. He's sitting next to me while I'm typing this drawing fanart for Chrissakes.

It perplexes me how you can be so hateful towards the fans when the creators not only need them but embrace them. Often, the reason one ship is canon and another is not is not because of creator preference but the shows rating (censorship) or a mutual descision of the writers based on what they feel would work for the show. In fact, many people working on a single show are multi-shippers as well as accepting of pornography and other types of fanwork. JK Rowling loves fanfiction and alternate pairings, as long as they are properly marked so that children cannot access the smut. Pendleton Ward has implications of several pairings on Adventure Time because he likes to appeal to his fans. His writers and storyboard artists argue over ships all the time and he loves gay ones like Bubblegum x Marceline. The Edd/Eddy pairing was started after a storyboard writer's yaoi sketches were released on the internet. Dan Mandel finds Buddyshipping artwork amusing. Jim Parsons who plays Sheldon Cooper, prefers Shenny to Shamy because he thinks Penny and Sheldon have the best chemistry. In fact, he pitched it to Chuck Lorre. Frank Miller thinks Joker is in love with Batman and throws in gay implications at any chance he can. Andrew Hussie finds hentai artwork of himself and another male webcomic artist hilarious.

So in the end everyone from the creators, to the writers, to the artists, actors, and fans have their own head-canon, shipping, and naughty scenarios all smooshed up in their heads that doesn't show on screen. It isn't the "television company's" characters. These shows belong to everyone because we love them. Some people are going to feel like you I suppose and I am sorry you do not like shipping or alternate universes or head-canon, but this does not make us wrong. This makes us a different kind of fan and neither of us should spit on one another. This is my issue with you. Your need to crush others into conforming to your own canon. There will always be people like me. People who breath ships. I have a list on my main account. It goes over fifty pages in word of couples I love and ones I don't like so much. I will always find a ship. I have been like this since I was a child. I will always find pairings, dissect canon, and create new scenarios because this is me.

Now, this is my question: if all these people creators, writers, actors, do not mind what we do than why do you? You say we are ruining the shows and messing with this or that, but if the people whose babies were are toying with do not care, then what does it upset you so? Fans will naturally emulate and play with what they enjoy. This is why things like fantasy football exist. Isn't that really fanfiction for sports? So it is this that truly perplexes me about you.

All in all, you must be my favorite troll because you seem to think spamming my various accounts and groups is going to upset me. It really isn't. I find you adorable, like an angry little gnome.

Why am I a “fucktard”? Is it because I prefer Dan and Chris as a couple? Or is it perhaps that I pointed out that I find it humorous that you have artwork by two extremely devout Buddyshippers in your gallery? I know this because I am very, very close with them. As well as (according to my patchwork) have requested work from a couple serious Jerkshippers.

If this group is against non-straight ships, why does it only allow Burgershipping and Cuddleshiping? Wouldn’t it be less inflammatory to start a group for Dan x Hortense and Chris x Elise? Non-Slash/Femmeslash insinuates that you accept all alternative heterosexual pairings, including ones like (my favorite hetero Dan Vs pairing) Elise and Ninja-Dave [Ninjashipping] or (my friend’s love of loves) Dan x Honey [Kittyshipping].

I think the thing that irritates me, as well as many other Dan Vs fans (slash or not) is that we are known for being an incredibly accepting fandom. It is not until you that I met a single fan in this beautiful, wonderful, incredible fandom that has ever disparaged others for their ships and I know plenty of Burgershippers AND Cuddleshippers. You’re making us look intolerant and that makes me sad.

So forgive me for poking a little fun, but Dan Vs is the fandom closest to my heart and I dislike seeing animosity in it.
