I've been replaying Half-Life 2 and it's episodes and comparing them to today's corporate sludge.
Despite being linear Half-Life 2 and it's episodes have more freedom since they put health kits in certain areas and break up fights with occasional puzzles, plus not having health regenerate makes a game less monotonous.

if companies look at half life 2 with its story gameplay they can see that it can be done.....
but i have been playing red dead redemption alot aswell and i can only say that besides valve rockstar are a company that can deliver both bad ass story and bad ass characters and also with fair multiplayer aswell
