# About me
I am an Artist living in the Design District of Miami starting to work full time on my craft. If you wish to contact me for information about a piece for price or availability, or if you'd like to talk about commissioning a piece please do not hesitate to email me at MLRosen1989@gmail.comI graduated from the University of Miami May of 2011 with a Bachelors of Science in Education; double majoring in Psychology and Human & Social Development. At Miami I received paid work for 2 years as the Staff cartoonist for the Miami Hurricane Newspaper with over 50 newspaper publications. I was also an illustrator and was published in a few magazines like, DISTRACTION and Palmer Trinity. For 2 summers during my undergraduate studies I worked at Island Lake Camp as the Cartooning Instructor and taught groups of children ages 7-16.

Hi Matt, My name is Felipe Lobon and I'm a fellow cane, I actually laid out your comics for most of the two years at the Hurricane, we met once a while back. I actually stumbled on your work on devart through Florida deviants and the more I think about it the more I keep thinking about starting up a webcomic of my own. I have zero experience as of now but I have a good background in digital art and I'm pretty confident in my character creation ability/writing. I'm writing you this only as a method of networking and just getting in contact, but I'm also writing it as an entry point to possible future opportunities. I was also wondering if you had any advice for someone starting off and was wondering if you thought of devart as a good distribution platform. Hope you enjoy the remaining two year before graduation and maybe we should meet up and talk comics at some point

I'm actually graduating this semester so for you this is a perfect starting point if you ever wanted to submit comics to the Hurricane next Fall. You'll have a whole summer to practice as well!
I am also a cartooning instructor, I worked up in PA at an art camp and I give private lessons around Coral Gables to kids 7-13. So I'm going to give you the best advice for comics!
1) Practice practice practice- work everyday on fine tuning what skills you already have
2) Don't just rush into it. Create characters that you love and if it has a theme, make sure that you won't get sick of it. EX: If you decide to do a comic strip about fruit make sure in 2 years you still want to draw fruit everyday lol
3) SPELL IT OUT! That's prob the most important. People are... I don't want to say stupid but literally spell out the joke to them. Make it simple and have a punchline that is understandable by at least 5 people. I always send mine to five friends and get feedback first before ever uploading or sending things in.
4) Last thing I can give is- Give it your all. You only get better as you go on and continue doing it... And it is hard to put yourself out there. People these days arn't always so nice and don't listen to them, but people that give you feedback and criticism- listen bc they may have great ideas.

haha, yeah man I wish I had started earlier but I'm graduating too, class o '11 but the advice is truly appreciated man, You've been a real help in getting me motivated to actually start cartooning.
