In doing this techneque I fined that I get some double lines in my work. How do you prevent some double lines from showing?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MVRamsey In reply to kurtnordli [2018-10-17 02:33:21 +0000 UTC]

that usually happens when you paint your depth map a bit too clise to the edge of the image...called "ghosting"...to avoid that just paint a little further beyind the edges..not toi far, of course...just experiment with it...and dint firget to give the map a bit of a gaussian blur...again not too much...blurring softens the edges and cuts down on ghosting...and one more thing...it can also happen if youre giving it too high of a displacement number. Star with a low number first...if its not enough just go a bit higher until it looks right.
Hope this helps! 😁

Yes, I sorta figured that out. But I still seem to get it. I'amΒ  almost to the fact that I just Photoshop that out after the fact. BUT I want to be able to do that without having to do that. All in the Depth MAP type deal (you know what I meant?).

Well, hey....send me a pic you've done, along with it's depth map and I'll have a look...maybe it'll be easier to figure this out if I see for myself what' is happening.

How do you make your 3-D conversions? What kind of software do you use? If you don't mind sharing with me your knowledge though, i want to make 3D art more than conversions, in particular i wanna use it in comics.

Anyway, your work is amazing!

Well, thank you! Β I'm glad you like them. I actually use Photoshop...and old version, too...Photoshop CS2.
First I find a good picture....then I paint over it to create a depth map. After adjusting the color settings on the original, I apply the map and a stereo anaglyph images is made. It's easier than I'm making it sound, really, once you get the hang of the proccess. For me the more difficult, complex images are the most fun to do.

Sounds like me.except i have never used a depth map

ScroptelsGL In reply to MVRamsey [2017-08-31 16:38:59 +0000 UTC]

Depth maps, i see. i read of a similar method with relief mapping on 3d graphics software like Blender but they both seem to give pretty similar results. I'll look into it further. I'm pretty new to this so i'm still learning.

in my case i find it facinating to "draw" something in 3D, it's like sculpting an image more than drawing it, it poses a tremendous challenge but one that is very engaging and fun, and i love seeing the things i draw "come to life", that's why I've become so interested in it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MVRamsey In reply to ScroptelsGL [2017-08-31 19:51:36 +0000 UTC]

It really is a lot like sculpting....when I'm making a map, I have to see just what areas of the image are further back and what areas are closer, and paint them accordingly....darker for distant and lighter for near...most of my dept maps start off totally black for the background and I paint them, or "build them up" from there, going to lighter and lighter. It can be very difficult, but those are the most fun to do...they're more challenging.Β

Your work is looking very cool-- swell job! I'm curious to know why you chose color anaglyph, which I've always found to be an odd compromise between straight red/green (red/blue) stereo images and a normal color range. Part of the reason I bring this up is, I've been doing some 3-D photos (converting images I shot, intended for 3-D), and I've been making them chiefly for viewing with Google Cardboard. Have you tried that? It's what all the kids are doing these days! Lol. All side-by-side stereo images, and pretty cool, when done right.

Anyway, I'd love to see your images done that way, in their normal colors, of course. What do you think?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MVRamsey In reply to Jak-of-Arts [2015-10-17 02:41:22 +0000 UTC]

I've never heard of Google Cardboard, but I'll definitely check it out! I've been asked before about doing side-by-side stereo images, but I haven't tried it yet...I haven't been sure just how to go about it...the ones I do are done with depth mapping...been doing this for about 2 years or so now...but I'm willing to try something new, too....I'll take a look at Google Cardboard and see what I can come up with! Hi there!
I am absolutely loving your work all over again after rediscovering anaglyph 3D.
I remember you pointed me to a tutorial on how to create your 3D images, please could you link me again? (Sorry)

I am really thinking of creating some myself.
Keep up the amazing work, and I showed my wife these and she was most impressed

Sure, no problem at all...my tutorial is here: Β mvramsey.deviantart.com/art/3-…
It's a video tutorial...you might want to mute it, though...I thought it would be cute to have some music looping, but it just turned out annoying. *lol*
Also, here is a link to the excellent tutorial that I learned how to do mapping from myself...www.deviantart.com/art/Photosh…
And when you do some 3-D anaglyphs yourself, feel free to post them on my site..I'd love to see what you come up with! Β Also, if I can be of any help along the way, don't hesitate to ask...I'd be happy to help in any way I can. Β )
