For a chapter of LIME (not sure if it will be the next one or one after that)
Elise hasn't actually said anything about her asperger's. I've decided that she doesn't actually know she has it yet, but soon she's going to start questioning why she's 'different', because her step-sister (the girl with the cat in the last two chapters) will be treating her different or something. And of course, George right now is the only person near her she can ask about this. He knows about it.
Now, forgetting that Elise's case of Asperger's is mid-high whereas my real life case is mild, if I didn't know I had Asperger's and you did and so did everyone else and I began to realise there was something up and I said to you, "What is wrong with me?" what would your reply be?
I've had lots of replies for George in my head but I'm not sure about them. My favourite so far is (told from Elise's POV as usual):
I thought about it as we were walking. Then I decided I would ask. So I said, "George?"
And he said, "Yeah?"
"What is wrong with me?" George laughed.
"Ah, lots of things." I guessed this was a joke, because he was smiling. I did not smile back.
"What is wrong with me?"
"What do you mean?"
"People treat me different," I recalled the way the lady in detention had spoken to me. "I have Kaleb. No one else I know has something like that. You all understand your jokes. I do not. What. Is. Wrong. With. Me?"
"Nothing's wrong, Els," George replied, but I looked at his face and he wasn't smiling anymore.
"Fine. But why am I different?"
I think George knew I was going to keep asking, so he gave up. But he still didn't answer properly, and this made me cross.
"I think that's a question you need to ask someone else."

I also think he'd feel pretty bad because Elsie assumed there was something "wrong" with the way she was
I think he'd probably answer it inadvertently or not at all, like what happened in your scenario
Here's my personal idea of what he'd eventually say/
"Thing is Els, everyone's brains work differently, it's what makes people different. That's why you're different, your brain works different to everyone else's- and that isn't a bad thing. It's what makes you you, and that's a brilliant thing. Now stop asking me weird questions cos the cheese of it all is killing me."
Personally? I prefer yours, it's up to you though.
