Firstly, love your street shots.
Secondly, I also have the same problems which you mention in your journal entry to do with taking people's street portraits.
It took me a whole day to get 20 decent shots of people in Manchester on the Royal Wedding Day (a day when you'd expect people to be more open to having their photo taken). It is a long process, with lots of rejection, but the results are definitely worth it I find.
I was inspired by street photographer Danny Santos to take my own street portraits. I don't know if you've heard of his but some of his portraits are fantastic; I recommend you take a look.
Keep on snapping and know that all photographers share the same problems - you're not alone!

Thank you for the comments, much appreciated. I to have been inspired by Danny Santos, especially his rain shots, i've been trying something simialar but believe it or not, it doesn't rain often enough in Manchester.

I know what you mean though, it would have to be a dramatic downpour, not the constant pathetic drizzle that normally lingers over Manchester.
