I was born in France, but now live & work in Denton, Texas.
Raised in La Charité-sur-Loire, Orléans, and Tours, I settled in Texas in 1993, via a brief stay in New Orleans. I am a photographer, textile artist, digital artist, and sometimes a nonfiction writer.
I take photos on a daily basis, always trying for a new angle, light, topic, cropping, or shape. As one of my teachers put it, "What beauty? There is no beauty in the world! You must invent it!" (One tries.)
My digital work layers images using Photoshop. I usually use three to four images, but sometimes as few as two and once or twice up to seven. I combine effects, using lighting, contrast, opacity and transparency, color manipulations, homemade filters, cropping, flipping, and other techniques.
I am keenly interested in the way layering representational images (landscapes, people, objects) produces either a surreal composition (recognizable things in bizarre contexts) or something close to abstract. One of the most fascinating aspects of the latter images is that, despite flirting with abstraction, they never reach it fully—recognizable details always remain here and there, which often yields an uncanny effect.
