Mermafied is the first merfolk group on deviantART, and is geared towards practical or exotic mer-peopleThis community has more of a sci-fi or practical approach to creating merfolk than typical fairytale depictions. The merfolk here are based on existing sea life, or come straight from the imagination with function in mind. If you enjoy sea-life and have a practically designed mermaid, merman or any other persuasion of mer-character, or would like to make one, this is the club for you.

I would join...but I have not studied fish-life enough to adequately draw a merperson that fits the requirements of this group. For now, I wouldn't mind being a loving supporter of this group. =] I love the artwork and maybe one day I will come up with a good merperson. =]

Its first merfolks on DA all right but your club is not largest merfolks on da because *TheMermaidsClub is the most largest and most popular on DA because they got 1,020 deviantions and so many members joined *TheMermaidsClub Its the most active club. 
The owner of *TheMermaidsClub is *Princess-Mer-Tigerz Is the best owner because she keep her club active everyday

At the time of the journal Mermafied had more pageviews, and it is the first merfolk club, but yes, it seems the other one does have more views now. If she or any member there wishes to join, that would be great, though it is up to each person to express their interest via note and complete the prerequisite.
Also as Ryoko said, the two clubs have vastly different goals, focus, audiences and purposes.

I've been in the Mermaids club, and Mermafied, and they are very very very different atmospheres. Trust me. Mermafied is focused on more "natural" styled mermaids with an emphasis on finding new options from the traditional "disney style" or fairy tale mermaid.
The Mermaids Club is "open" to all mermaids, but most members don't stray from traditional fairy tail mermaids that Mermafied tends to avoid. The heavy Disney overtones and traditional fairy tale mermaids keep that club popular. They're both nice groups, but they're both very different :3
Please don't try to compare the two when the differences are so staggering. The mermaids club has a lot of members, a lot of popularity and some pretty mermaid princesses, but Mermafied has a different creative engine which might not get as many hits, but the leader and members work just as hard to make the club work.
