Generally a solid type, pun partially intended. I've always viewed it as the Rock type, but actually good. Yeah, they're a little slow and have some common weaknesses, but they're usually pretty bulky and have great attack stats. Their designs are generally kinda weak for me, but the ones that stand out are really cool (Garchomp, Palossand, Excadrill, Gliscor, Sandaconda, to name a few).

Plus, unlike Rock, Ground is usually a good match to other types (Swampert's Ground and Water typing, Gliscor Flying/Ground typing, Excadrill's Steel/Ground, etc).
