Hey I noticed you're a Brit living in America too who jokes with significant other about the bloody awful accents.
I've been in Ohio for 5 years now and just recently have I decided to say sod it, I spend way too much time trying to fit in with the Americans and not say English things.
Brits Rules!

Its hard isn't it? I have found myself saying so many words in an American accent without realising it, stuff like "dawg" and "tom-ato". Its getting to the point where I don't notice it, but the second I call my family at home I revert to my usual accent. My girl does a really good English accent though LOL Its hard being at college where I lose marks for spelling thiings correctly! Like colour and using s instead of z LOL

Mine does a horrible British accent and an even worse London accent (he watches Lock Stock and Snatch ALL THE TIME) however I have trained him to say Basil, Oragano, Aluminium and Herb correctly.
Whenever I speak to my sister she says I sound like a Yank but that may have something to do with the fact I spent 3 years here with no English person to talk to..
Its great to meet people in the same situation as you, specially when you're so far away from home.
The spelling thing I don't give a shit about, if they don't like the way I spell it and fial me for it they can kiss me ass, English was here before American therefore it is a viable alternative.... failing you for spelling something correctly whatthefuck ever

My girlfriend loves both Lock Stock and Snatch, at least her accent is passible, but she does it in public at times without realising. No need to train her to say Aluminium or Oregano correctly, she already does, herb is still a contested word. But as Eddie Izzard put it "Its herb, because there's a f*cking H in it!"
I have been here a year now and still sound English but American pronouciations come up now and again. Yeah its cool to meet someone in the same situation, but I am still to meet another British person in person here.
