It is indeed. I was bored last night and was perusing Kyle's friends list (weird, huh?) and came across you, looked at your stuff. I gotta say, I didn't know you could draw so well. Plus... I'm a mild Avatard

Nah, that's not so weird! Sometimes I go through people's favorites, 'cause sometimes you find really cool stuff that way! Lol! But nah, I'm sort of amateur as far as it goes art-wise. Lol! But YAY AVATARDS! Lol! One of the best shows EVER! And one of my friends got me hooked on Death Note recently! Lol!

No, I'm definitely weird, even if not for said reasons.
Well, Death Note is pretty f'ing awesome. Though I enjoyed the manga way more than the anime, just some food for thought.

Well, okay, I guess band people are certified crazy peoples! Lol!
At first when my friend told me to at least watch the first two episodes, I was pretty skeptical about it but then when L showed up I was all OMG L ROCKS!!!! Lol! I ended up staying awake until 4:30am to watch the series and couldn't sleep 'cause I wasn't able to finish it! Lol! I also bought the mangas 1-8, 12 and 13 as well as the BB Murder Cases one. I finished that in a few hours, but it was pretty neat. I'm still waiting for Barnes and Noble to order volumes 9-11! I really like them both, they're pretty amazing! I can't believe how twisted the author's thinking has to be to think up something as complex as that! Lol!

Yeah, I think that's a requirement. Otherwise we wouldn't be able to allow such torture willingly
Anyway, Death Note. I know, it's totally amazing in that it is so intelligent in that evil way it has about it. And yeah, L is pretty awesome, though I prefer Light as my favorite character. (People say I look like him, even the hair. It's pretty much my backup cosplay.)
As far as finding your missing volumes, I bet you could get them at Borders. I know, I know, store loyalty, but even I, a born and bred Borders man who hates Barnes & Noble, have occasionally crossed enemy lines into that desolate territory to purchase that which I could not find elsewhere. Then, of course, there's always the ability to read it online. Go to [link] and find Death Note in their manga list if that's a viable alternative for you

Very true!
Light is a cool character too! I thought it was interesting following the "bad guy"'s story line instead of the "good guy"'s. 'Cause then it was the good guys who were the bad guys! It turned the typical plot completely upside-down, so it was really refreshing! And Watari! He rocks! But I must say, I have a soft spot for Matsuda! He's so naive, he's like a little puppy, it's adorable!
I might go to a Borders! The only problem is the closest one to me is at Bridgeport, so I can't get there for a while! Until then, that website is awesome, I'll probably check that out! Thanks!

MisterShake In reply to Golden-Flute [2009-01-19 06:46:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, exactly, your mind keeps telling you that "logically" Light is the evil one, but for some reason you just can't come to believe it and, of course, then comes the desire to justify such a belief, which is immensely difficult in any of today's modern societies. One thing I hated about Light, though was
SPOILER ALERT: I don't know if you have read all the way to the end, don't read the next sentence if you haven't.
Anyway, I hated how he was so cool and collected and intelligent throughout the whole thing even when the odds were way against him, but at the very end, when he finally gets beat, he just goes insane and looks like a total chump. Way too out of character I thought. Some will say that the strain of being Kira and the fact that he had been defeated finally made him crack, but I think that's just a convenient way to cover up a poor character development choice.
END SPOILER ALERT!
And yes, Watari is totally awesome. He's like Alfred from the new Batman movies, old, but deceivingly deadly. Also, are going to an institute of higher education? I realize there are many places to reside that would make Bridgeport the closest place for Borders, but when I'm in Canby, that also happens to be true, so I gotta ask.

Exactly! It's really creepy how the writers are able to make you think differently than you really do! It's like Matsuda, halfway through, when he was all "Is Kira really evil?" But I think it was healthy that he brought it up, because if you go after something and you don't truly believe it, you're not going to like the outcome, whatever happens. But his asking made everyone stop and think about what they were doing, so they could continue on more assured that they were doing what was in their best interest.
Lol, don't worry, I haven't finished the manga, but I finished the anime! I agree with you, Light was totally out of character when he was caught! I mean, if someone had been pulling off the perfect crime for years and then is suddenly cornered, it might cause a normal person to crack, but Light is so smart and refined... you'd think he would have been a little more... I dunno... cool about it. I have to say, it was worth his total mental breakdown to have this to laugh at--> [link]
That's exactly what I thought! Watari=Alfred! And in that case, L is sort of like Batman where, when catching the bad guys, the ends justify the means!
Nah, I'm just going to good old CCC. I'll be transferring soon, but for now I'm living at home, which is five minutes away from CCC. They used to have a Borders in the mall, but then Barnes and Noble kicked them out. It was kinda sad.

Haha, I never thought about that aspect of Matsuda. Before I just thought he was some useless comic foil, but now that you bring that up not only do I have to agree but also commend you on your perceptive analysis. Of course, the flipside is also true, in that the author truly wanted to create the "Is Kira evil?" question, because many didn't think he was and for good reason. I believe that if the reader didn't have a strong stance either way, they wouldn't have enjoyed it as much or at all, as such the author wanted to make sure that the reader did have an opinion.
Oh wow. I've never seen the English dubbed anime, just the English subbed one, but that laugh is great. But if I recall correctly, that's before he goes really nuts, right? If that's the case, then the placement of this "crazy" laugh was effective, because at that point, he still thinks he has a slim chance of winning.
Is it just me, or wouldn't have been a smart idea to hide Death Note pages all over the place as soon as you found out it worked. Someone as smart as Light surely would perceive that the cops would eventually be after him, and that he might need some backups especially if the Death Note should somehow fall out of his possession. Sure, he had the bit in his watch, but we found out how well that worked. Really, the point at which Light lost was when he failed to realize that the pages he was planning to use were fake. He knew that some were, and tried to plan around that. An easy fix for all of that would've been to go grab one of his backup pages. No one but him would know of it's existence because it would have been hidden well before anyone was even watching him. Well, there's my two cents.
To continue the Batman analogy, Light is totally the Joker, but he's a reverse polarity Joker. Still the bad guy, but trying to bring about order instead of chaos.
I KNOWWWW!!! I hated that cursed day when the awesome Borders Express was no more. They had such a good selection of manga it wasn't even funny. Speaking of manga and also of Death Note, you should read Bakuman. It's by the same artist and writer duo as Death Note and is about two high school students aspiring to actually become mangaka. Here's a link: [link]
It's totally awesome.

Yay, I've been commended! Woot! I really liked the fact that Death Note went into some deep, fundamentally-challenged plots! It was so complex and I do so love a story with twists in it! I loved Matsuda, he was awesome! Woot! Lol!
I like the dubbed ones. Some of them suck, but Death Note was one of the better dubs, so I didn't mind watching it. I had a favorite site for watching them, but it was recently taken down! I was so sad!
OMG, Doug, YOU'RE KIRA!!!!!!! Lol! Who else would have thought to take extra sheets of paper around with you or whatnot! Yesh, I agree that Light should have been more alert. I think it was funny that he'd been going for about five years and then all of a sudden made one tiny mistake and it was all caput!
Woot! Batman! Lol!
I only recently got into manga, so I never bothered to look at their selection at the mall! I did start reading Bakuman yesterday, actually and I think I'm on chapter three! I must say, the main character's uncle's smile/smirk was kreeeeeeeeepy! It's pretty good and I'll probably finish it, but right now I'm working on Fullmetal Alchemist! It's so addicting! I'm on chapter 25 right now! Yay! But after that I'll probably return to Bakuman! Yay! I hate my friend for getting me into mangas, 'cause now I can't put them down! I must say, they are my guilty pleasure! One of my friends caught me reading it one day and she was all "OMG, lyke what r yoo reeding omg?!?!?" and I was all "Oh... just some manga thing." It sucks that most of my friends associate manga with childish cartoons, thus, associate me with children. They'd totally think differently if I could just force them to read the first volume of Death Note! So I keep it mostly to myself and call it my guilty pleasure! Lol!

You know, I've noticed a lot online manga and anime related things being shutdown or going under recently. I hope it doesn't become a trend.
I wouldn't mind being Kira, honestly. I tend to take a proactive stance, so whether or not humanity would eventually weed the scum out of itself (I don't believe it would), I would still decide to make that time now and just get things done. And once everyone is done fighting, they can concentrate on other things and some scientists can create the technology required to upload my mind into a prosthetic body, and then I wouldn't have to worry about wherever it is people that have used a Death Note go after they die, cause I'd never die!
And now, on to more serious matters. The association that manga and anime have with being childish is something that will not disappear within our lifetimes. You will always have to deal with it. The best way to combat this is to become informed about the differences between anime and "cartoons", and manga and "comic strips", though it is much easier to draw contrast in the prior. Also, introduce as many people as you can to the good anime and manga that you have seen. All to often you find someone that hates anime solely due to the reason that the first, and last, one they have seen is something crappy like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh. If you like, I can provide you with some important points on each and ways in which to use them intelligently. There may come a day when the courage of otaku fails, but today... IS NOT THAT DAY!

I hope so too! It's just really sad! I mean, they'll just have to put them back up when books become outlawed to save trees! Lol!
GAH! Don't kill me, okay, Kira? Lol!
Yeah, I've gotten one of my friends into it and she's watched the first two episodes of Death Note which is nearly like the mangas themselves. She saw Ryuk and was all "Holy crap, this is creepy and dark!" And we went to the mall later and went into the Unique Imports store and they had this entire shelf of anime character plushies! They had L, Light, I think... oh, and many FF plushies like Cloud, Sephiroth, Kadaj, Squall (I call him Leon since I first met him in Kingdom Hearts! Lol!), etc. Oh, and Demyx from Kingdom Hearts II! I cringe every time I see him, 'cause it took me literally three weeks to beat him on medium! Gawd... But anyway, we also saw this statue of Ryuk and she was all "Oh, it's the creepy clown thing!" I had to laugh at that, but at least she had retained what she'd watched! By the way, awesome battle speech! THIS... IS... MANGA!!!!!!
And for your viewing and listening pleasure--> [link]

How dare you, blasphemer! Books will be the only thing left after technology turns against us in favor of greener pastures!
Excellent, most excellent. Perhaps someday the entire world will at least know the distinction, if not also be otaku. Nonono... nevermind. An entire world of otaku, that might be a bit much for even the most hardcore person. Anyway, yeah, that Unique Imports store is totally badass, but, I've never seen this Ryuk statue. How much was it and when did you see it, because I'm a sucker for epic stuff like that.
Ha, glad you liked the speech. I've been told by some that I can be really... intense when I try at it. Although, it probably comes from memorizing the epic speeches in so many movies and shows, then utilizing the style and feel of their speech to suit my specific situation. Sometimes people feel the need to calm me down, but I don't need their "calmness". I'm a warrior. A warrior for that which I know to be true and geeky. I will not fight for trivial matters such as which Gundam is the most powerful, but for the real issues, like, is Pokemon an anime (it isn't). Many have died before me while fulfilling this noble calling. They aren't here anymore. But in my obligatory anime tshirt, and in my heart, WE WILL LIVE ON AS ONE!

Sorry! Lol! My mom got one of the electronic books and it's really cool! Basically you can buy practically any books off of Amazon.com for $5 ($10 if they're hardback, but that's still half the price) and they'll be sent to your device! It's nifty! However, it's expensive and I like reading what's on the paper! Lol!
You know, your speech qualities are very close to Hitlers! Lol! Now hear me out... Fact: Hitler was an evil, EVIL little man. Fact: It was a comb-over. Fact: He made very good speeches. Opinion: His mustache made him look fun and perky! Lol! But he would start out very calm and collected and through his speech, he would get more emotional until at the end he was yelling.
Oh God... what could be worse than a Hitler-Kira? Good lord, we're all dead.

UGH! I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STAND THOSE ELECTRONIC BOOK THINGS!!! IT'S NOT A BOOK, IT'S CLOSER TO A WEBSITE!!!
Er hrm.
Well, I agree that the way you have described Hitler is accurate, but I don't really think that comes close to describing either me or Kira. First neither of us have combovers, that is of course, the most important factor. Second, we may be evil, but we are certainly not small. Not in anyway at all, especially "that" way. Finally, you forgot to mention that Hitler was insane. Certainly, Kira went a little nutso near the end, but for most of it he was sane enough. And as for myself, I maintain a healthy level of insanity that is both useful and required for imaginative thinking and simply existing in our current world situation. It is important to note that people claiming they are not insane at all are usually more guilty than others and that those who never even think about it are generally the most sane of all, though also the most boring and mechanical. And now for your rebuttal on the state of the human psyche.
