No, not at all.
Most often sheet music for the ocarina isn't even written in staff format. It's basically a picture of an ocarina showing you which holes to cover up to produce that certain note. I don't like this too much because you can't tell rhythms from this system, meaning you can't sight read it. You have to know what the song sounds like (so you're able to play the correct rhythms).
But it's very much a "pick-up-and-play" sort of instrument, like a recorder. It didn't take me but three minutes to figure it out.

The only issue is that it doesn't tell you for how many beats to hold each note, it's a very primitive system.

Yes, it's surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it. It is possible to read off of staff music sheets. They just make this for the people who are lazy and don't want to learn how to read a clef.
I'm not too sure if Zelda fanboys are interested in learning how to play the ocarina for the love of music, just a thought.

I was looking at a snow leopard... and a way to make it into a fursona.. when I looked at the markings, I realized that they're a bit fermata shaped. Which made me consider "hey, I'm a musician, this could work.." And it did :3
