By the by, your own style is completely adorable. I'm jealous of your coloring. Really nice choices - tasteful, matching colors, and fun outfits (I want that scarf. Where can I buy that scarf?!).
(...This is where I fail, my people always look like they got dressed in the dark! ^_^)

Wow, thank you so much! That makes me feel really good - particularly the color part, because I've had to really work on that. (I used to use very bright colors, to the point they were blinding. xD)
As for the scarves...which one? I, er, have a love for scarves, and I thought you meant the one in the birthday picture (which would be Tom Baker's scarf, he's one of the doctors from Doctor Who.) but then I remembered there's one in my gallery that I made from scratch as well. Well, those are the two most noteable ones. If you're talking about the Doctor Who one I bet people make it often . (I've never made it myself - just drawn it. xD)

Haha, I did mean the birthday scarf. Guess that's one more reason I need to finally watch Dr. Who! But I think your interpretation is cuter than the regular one - bigger blocks of color, less busy.
And speaking of colors, I would say your work definitely paid off! You're an inspiration. I need to put a little more forethought into my coloring...^_^;;; I'm going to throw all my characters on What Not to Wear right away. ^_~

Aw, thanks! I think Tom Baker is one of the older doctors. (There are so many of them, I can hardly keep up - the friend I drew that for loves Doctor Who and requested she wear it, since her character in the picture usually wears a scarf.)
I only managed to figure out some coloring stuff because my friends have given me concrit and tips - without them, I'd probably still draw and color and generally be clueless about art. Even now, I mess up with my color palettes I choose. So we can both work on it. (Though I honestly don't see anything wrong with your coloring jobs - but I'm still learning about colors myself so I'm not sure I'd be able to point out what was wrong unless you were using neon bright colors or something.)

It just...makes me want to draw in bright neon colors...MUST RESIST~
Are the characters in your gallery all OCs? You didn't make specific mention so I was wondering. I really like that aquarium picture (although the background in the original was so cuuuute~!), especially because getting to see the same picture redone really showcases your improvement. Post more on dA~~~! ^______^

It's a fun scarf.
Yup, I mostly draw OCs - mine and friends'. And thank you! I was rather fond of the shark, too, but was having trouble with one-point perspective to pull off the aquarium tunnel, so I didn't do the kelp and fish either.
And I'll try to post more. I kind of stopped using it for a few months because I wanted to improve more and come back, so I've recently started using it again. Mostly, I just sketch a lot and throw the scans up on my LJ, so I'd put digital art there too. I'm a bit lazy. xD

High five on all counts. I have to threaten myself with horrible punishments to get myself to draw even the most basic of backgrounds, so even knowing what "one-point perspective" is puts you yards ahead of me! I'm lazy, too. Especially when it comes to scanning. Somehow it just feels like a lot of work...

More than all right! Is that different than watching? I have no idea about so much on this site, even though I've had it for what feels like a very long time. ^_^;

MushyK In reply to VanillaPudding [2010-07-31 03:27:27 +0000 UTC]
Ah, when you choose to watch someone, you can select whether you also add them to your friends - I normally feel uncomfortable pushing friendship on people, unless I've talked to them and get along really well with them, so I normally start off adding people just to my watchlist. But you're awesome, so I went back and checked "friends" as well!

Ah okay~! I think it does that automatically, and I just let it^_^;;; Hope that doesn't make me insensitive...I'm so clueless with the etiquette of this site, other than the kind of etiquette that also applies IRL. ^_^;

Oh, no, it's fine - I don't think it makes you insensitive. I never paid attention to it when I first joined this site, and no one ever seemed to mind in the past. I just don't do it now because it helps me keep track of my friends list a bit better.

I knew vaguely what it was from art classes in elementary school, but I didn't know it by name until my friend recently started working with a lot of it in her art. ): But yay for laziness! And down with backgrounds! They're evil!

Haha, hey, Fumi Yoshinaga is one of my personal heroes and has a bazillion published manga --- and even SHE hardly draws backgrounds. So pfft, says I. Haha~
<---- making excuses, is really just lazy...

Haha, it works as an excuse! xD That is, until you start to want to draw cool backgrounds after seeng enough of them, and feel like you HAVE to learn...even if it kills you. That's the point I'm at now. xD

ARGH, I have to kind of agree. The backs of my pictures have started to feel blank. BUT I AM SO TERRIBLE AT DRAWING PLACES. ^_^; Ah well. I suppose that's what that terrible thing called 'practice' is for.

MushyK In reply to VanillaPudding [2010-08-01 06:40:24 +0000 UTC]
That's me, too - but I'm trying to practice and research one-point. I might suggest looking up one-point, when you feel ambitious about drawing really detailed backgrounds. My friend linked me a really good tutorial on it. And yup, practice. IT NEVER ENDS. xD

-looks it up- Oh man, I vaguely remember this. But ARGH. So hard. Nothing ever looks proportionate when I do it. Hmmmmm...I guess I'll have to start with a lot of long hallways. Good thing the Order is FULL OF THEM.

That's what happens to me, too - I can't get it to look right when I try it. But I guess it's one of those things you have to start small and work your way up, and do a lot of studying. D: (Hallways are definitely a good start - and yes, the Order has plenty of hallways!)

I can never figure out where the vanishing point should be. I mean, theoretically you can put it anywhere, but...yeah. Just never quite looks right. I need to take some pictures of superlong hallways, or something. Get a feel for it.

That's the same way I am - I can't figure out where it goes. So for now, I've just been putting one down and working with basic shapes.

Haha, you are so GOOD. I just get bored trying to do all the necessary practice-y things that make you a better artist. I really gotta get over that...but I have so little time to draw usually, I hate to just draw...nothing I want to look at again later, y'know?

MushyK In reply to VanillaPudding [2010-08-06 06:30:27 +0000 UTC]
I get bored doing some of that too, plus I'm a lazy ass. Also, art isn't my first love, so it gets put back for things I like more all the time. But I know what you mean. It feels weird when I use up paper on just working on one thing over and over to get it down, but lately I've kind of gotten over that? Before that, I felt like I had to draw a scene out or something to use the paper wisely. That might just be the poor person in my talking, though. "Don't waste paper on practice! Just draw scenes from the beginning..." Or something.
...I think I understood what you're saying, anyway. If I didn't, correct me. xD;

Haha, no, you hit the nail right on the head. ^_^ I'm the selfsame way, although even so I end up wasting paper like a madwoman.

I guess you don't remember me. xD Of course I would watch you...I commissioned you on Roliana once! It was actually because I was sorting through my favorites on dA and remembered that comission...it wasn't in my favorites. I can't find it in your gallery, but I've always thought your art was pretty awesome, so I figured I would watch you. If that's all right.
