# About me
I make and sell polymer clay sculptures as my main focus, but also like to mess around with Photoshop, make Portal(2) fan art, play piano, program, mod, make pixel art, just about anything you can think of- That doesn't mean I'll do it well though! XD I've been working with clay on and off since early 2011, making flowers and charms and whatnot, but not until I saw D&B's artwork here on dA summer of 2012 did I do anything serious! My mom was a potter, I suppose I have clay in my blood:) In April 2013, just a week before my birthday, I started my Etsy store, and that was that!# Comments

Wow. O__o I don't think I've ever has such an enthusiastic reaction! Thank you! There's no real "sure" way to make a good sculpture, but I can tell you a few of the techniques I use. First off, I use Sculpey III polymer clay, but you may want to use Premo depending on what climate you live in. Premo is harder, but both clay get softer in the heat. When you buy clay, check for cracks on the edge of the brick. That could indicate it got to hot and is partially baked, and will be harder to work with and possibly crumble. If my piece is larger than 1 1/2" or in a difficult pose, I'll put a simple armatureΒ of tin foil inside of the body, neck and head. This will help hold it up in the oven, because everything will droop slightly in the oven. It also helps to perk up the appendages slightly at the ends if the clay was soft before baking, so that it will droop to the correct position(It's more trouble than it's worth to put armatures in the appendages)Β I make twirly horns by making two thin cones about a third longer than I want the actual horns, holding them together at the tips, and twisting. I make all limbs except for the tail separate, and blend them on later. It really helps to have a clean workspace and to make sure that your hands are clean at all times so you don't get anything in the clay. I try to avoid light colors for the main color of a dragon, because I have cats and even with the most immaculate workspace possible I still get cat hairs in the clay every now and then, and they show up a lot against light clay. Also, if you are using a vibrant or dark color with light colors, wash your hands often because the clay will stick and smear onto your piece. I spend a ton of time on each piece, and just work with it. I don't usually start out with specific designs in mind, because I've found that just letting the clay decide what it wants to be is much easier. If a feature is really resisting, like if you can't get the horns right, don't sweat it and try something else. It always evolves into something better. That is all I can think of, the rest is just your own instinct! None of these tips are rules, just what I do, so go with what you think is best. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks so much for the critique~ I'll make sure to improve all of that on my next dragon. The only thing I'd like to mention is that the horns are conical, they are just flattened at the base to attach to the side of his head (which I should probably smooth too). So, thanks for the critique!

I think I see. That was my first time writing a critique, and I am SO sorry if it seemed like I was criticizing you. It's just that I make dragons too, and as soon as I saw yours my brain went into overdrive trying to analyze all of your different techniques, and comparing and contrasting, and thinking about what I do differently and what I do the same, and when I saw you were asking for critiques I just wrote down everything!! I do love your dragon. Really!!
