A swirling green portal appeared midair, in front of the pet shop before a small girl fell out of it, landing on her feet. Her green eyes matched her green hair, yet the boredom and annoyance in them seemed offsetting. "Here I am..." she muttered, looking at the place. On her arm sat a small creature, with a green leaf on it's head and leaf-like clothes. It had big red eyes and looked at Marona, but she payed it no attention as she headed inside the shop.

The Count's eyes glanced up from his armchair as he heard the bell jingle and the girl walked into the heavily-incense-scented, lavishly furnished shop - though it looked more like a sitting room than a shop. He smiled at her as he set down his cup of tee on the coffee table and approached the door.
"Welcome." He bowed, "How may I help you?"

"I'm not sure..." Marona muttered with her bored eyes, staring up at the Count. She blinked, looking around for a moment before muttering, "You're the one who told me to come... I've been looking for my stolen pure heart..."

"A pure heart, mm?" the Count simply smiled. He reached down toward the table and picked up his teapot and plate of sweets, "Care for anything to eat or drink?" he offered.
"I may be able to help you find what you desire... Or should I say, one of my friends should be able to help you. If you'd like to talk to me a bit about your problems, I'm sure we can work out some sort of arrangement?" he motioned to one of the armchairs for her to sit down as he took a leisurely seat in his own.

She raised an eyebrow suspiciously, a bit on guard, but shook her head, uttering, "I'm not hungry," as she walked over and sat herself in an armchair, it being pretty cozy. "... alright then. I guess the gist of it is my pure heart was stolen... and now I've become a little brat who thinks low of most everyone I meet."
She felt her ears, them being a bit pointy. She decided to leave out the part of her becoming a demon.

The Count listened, staring intently at Marona. He noticed her rubbing her ears and made note of the fact that they were pointed. Interesting...
"Hmm... well then, shall we have a look and see what I can do for you?" Count D stood and walked toward a door at the back of the shop, gesturing for Marona to follow as he placed a hand on the doorknob.

"What can you do for me, anyways?" she asked, standing up and following him, keeping a slight distance all the same.

"I should be able to find you a companion to aid you significantly in your search." He turned to her with a smile as he opened the door to the back and took a step in, "All I ask in return is that you properly care for it. I can't be held responsible for whatever happens if you fail to heed this warning."

"Well... what is it?" Marona asked, crossing her arms with a skeptical look on her mug.

"Hmm..." he gestured for her to follow as the door to the back room revealed what appeared to be a long set of hallways and doors, stretching out far beyond the size the back room should have been.
"For your situation, we have multiple options. Tell me... are there any creatures you're particularly partial to? Any you're afraid of? I need to ensure that I find you the proper pet."

"Mm... not really, I guess. I feel used to being around monsters and such... wait... pet?" she now had a confused look on her, as from behind her neck, her little green friend suddenly appeared- peeking out at the Count.

Count D stopped in front of one of the doors, turning around to answer Marona's question, when he noticed the creature perched behind her and lost his composure.
"Oooohhh!" he nearly squealed, crouching down excitedly to look at it, "Who's this? I can't believe I didn't notice you before, little fella." He continued to bubble and faun over it, "Could it be? A creature I haven't come across before?" He turned his gaze to Marona, "You must tell me! What is it? This adorable creature..."

"Hm? They're its a Putty... there's a bunch of them from where I come from..." she mumbled, looking over at it as the Putty ducked behind her head, a bit shy. "His name is Mocha... at least, I think. I know he's not mine, but I can't remember who he belonged to..."
Mocha, suddenly, was gone- as if it were not there to begin with.

Count D gasped as the Putty disappeared, "Oh my! It must be shy." he smiled, "Pity. I wanted to say hello. Oh well. Shall we continue on?" he gestured down the hall of doors.

"Um, alright... and Putties... they can bend space to travel wherever they want. That's sort of how I got here, really..." she muttered, following him.

"How marvelous..." Count D murmured excitedly. He stopped abruptly in front of a door and smiled, turning to Marona. "Well, this is the room. Are you ready?"

"I suppose so..." she nodded, staring blankly at the door.

The Count opened the door into a lavishly furnished room. Seated in velvet lounge chairs and couches were what appeared to be several very attractive young men, the "pets" Count D had spoken of earlier. One had dark hair, red eyes, and tiny little wings portruding from his back, another was tall, spindly, a kind smile on his face. Still another was dressed in Chinese garb, clad all in green, and the last boy had a round face with a prominent - but cute - nose and curly hair.
"So... are any of these to your liking? Take your pick, my dear..." He bowed and gestured Marona into the room to meet the boys.

She blinked, finding this a tad awkward, before looking up at him. "... Wait... isn't this a pet shop, or something...? I was kind of expecting a huge demonic creature, not... a bunch of guys. ... no offense, I guess."

Count D chuckled softly, "But my dear, they all are pets. It all depends on how you look at things..." Despite the possibly frightening implications behind his words, he meant what he said. Each and every one of the boys was indeed an animal, a pet. They were merely appearing human to Marona at the moment, which was probably largely due to the heavy and mysterious incense that filled the room.
"Allow me to introduce you. This," he gestured toward the curly-haired boy, is Bu-chan. This," he moved toward the boy clad in green, "Is Kero-chan. The one with the long legs is Lou-chan and our little winged friend is B-chan." He looked at Marona bemusedly, wondering how soon - if at all - she would overcome the effects of the incense.

"Uhm... hi, then..." she muttered, waving slightly to them. It wasn't like she didn't believe the Count... she's seen strange things recently. The incense soon wafted into her nose and she sniffled a bit. "Mm... smells funny... is that incense?"

The Count smiled and nodded, "Indeed, it is incense. I'm afraid that's why these boys appear before you the way they do, but I can assure you they are indeed animals. Would you like to see?" He walked over toward the incense burner and took the stick of incense, preparing to put it out as he looked to Marona for an answer.

"Go ahead." she muttered, nodding slowly.

As Count D put out the incense, the creatures retained their animal forms to reveal a frog, a bat, a cricket, and a pig all seated on the cushions around the room - the bat, however, was hanging from a pole protruding from the wall.
"Well? Is it easier for you to make a choice now?"

"Uh... the bat, I supposed." she mumbled, pointing towards it.

At her words, the bat moved from its perch and flew over to land on her shoulder, looking toward her affectionately. "Oh, B-chan seems to like you~!" Count D giggled.
"B-chan is proficient at bringing luck and helping people to find what they're looking for. So... would you care to take him home with you?" He walked toward her and stroked the bat behind the ears, then smiled back down at Marona.

A tad surprised Marona looked at B-chan; but her eyes didn't show it. She paused, thinking for a moment before muttering, "Alright, I'll take him home..."
She suddenly blinked.
"... You're giving him to me for free? There has to be a catch... I have to pay, right?"

"As long as you take care of him properly..." Count D paused for a moment, "There is no need for you to pay. If you neglect to do so, however, I will not be held responsible for what happens. Is that a fair deal?" he looked at her earnestly, trying to judge whether she was a suitable owner for B-chan and whether she would be willing to take care of him or not.

"... Yeah, it's fair... but... what would happen if I were to...?" she trailed off, letting the Count filling in the blanks himself.

"It depends. Consequences are consequences, I couldn't tell you all the possibilities of what could happen... You seem a trustworthy girl, though. If you're able to take care of that Putty creature, you should have no problem caring for B-chan. All he requires is water, fruit, and somewhere dark and cool to sleep." He understood exactly what she was getting at, and spoke as reassuringly as possible for him - which still sounded pretty mysterious.

"Alright... I can supply that back on my island. I'm the only one who lives there anymore, so it's kind of peaceful... so alright, I'll be good to him." She nodded quietly.

"I trust that you will." Count D replied with a nod of his own. "Now then, why don't we return to the main room. Would you care for some tea or cake?" He offered, as he turned toward the door out of the room.

"... Alright." she nodded again, looking over at B-Chan with a tiny smile.

B-chan screeched happily in response to Marona's smile. The Count smiled, as well, as he opened the door. The hallway they had walked down to get there had changed slightly, and he led the way down the long corridor to the shop's door.

Marona looked at the now changed corridor, but kept it so herself. She paused, glancing over at B-chan, then to Mocha who was not sitting besides B-Chan as she suddenly asked, "Where are we, anyways?"

"The back of the pet shop of course." Count D stated matter-of-factly, though it was obvious from the front of the store that the hallway they were in now would've stretched far beyond the boundaries of the pet shop.

"... Right..." she muttered, looking around. "Besides that, then... where are we in the world?"

"Oh, is that what you meant?" Count D laughed softly, "We're in Chinatown in San Francisco, a town in California in a country called America on a planet known as earth." Knowing that the girl was from another world, he felt the need to explain further. "It's a different world from your own, I believe.

"No, this isn't Ivoire alright... but I've been to this world before. Some place called Tokyo..." she muttered, reflecting on her past meeting with two guys called Kyon and Itsuki.

"Tokyo, hmm? I'm actually thinking of moving there myself. The people around here don't seem too fond of buying pets, what with the economy in the state it is. so you're from a place called Ivoire?"

"Yeah... lots of people here can't do what the people of Iviore can do... magic, and etc... plus, none of these wierd cars and stuff are here... then there are a few people like me who can talk to ghosts..." She muttered, frowning a bit. "Though, I seem to be the only one dubbed freak by the others. I get hate mail, even..."

"My, my, how marvelous. So you can speak with the dead?" Count D smiled at her, "It's true, not many of the people on this world are skilled in mysterious ways. But they're not all so bad..." He sighed and looks off as if thinking about someone.

"Hmph, I suppose..." she paused, thinking for a moment. "... Its not just speaking with the dead. I can confine them to objects so they can temporarily help me if I'm in trouble... they're still dead, but..."

"Really? What an amazing ability! I've never met anyone else like you before, Miss Marona."

"You're one of the few people to think that... that I remember at least. ... Thanks..." she muttered, smiling a tad. She looked over to B-chan and Mocha, as she rubbed their heads.

"All things living and dead are marvelous in some way. I'm glad to know humans who are respectful of the creatures of the world. If you care for the dead, you care for the living."

"Yeah..." she smiled to herself, wider than she had in a while. She liked talking to this guy.

The first smile he'd gotten from her the entire time. He smiled back, "For one so young, you seem to have a great deal of respect for the things not of this world. I truly hope you find this pure heart of yours you are looking for." She may not have realized it, but coming from the Count that was something special. He normally didn't give well wishes to anyone.

"Thank you..." she nodded, standing up. "I'm gonna go back to my home now... and feed B-Chan and Mocha. It was... nice meeting you."

"It was nice meeting you, as well, Miss Marona." He bowed, showing her toward the entrance.
