Sorry to bother you again friend. But you do commissions for real money right? I just wanted to know. I want to start doing commissions for $, but I heard some where that if you are under 18 you aren't allowed to. And I didn't know if it was the same for this site. I just thought I should ask some other artists that were under 18.

Mysterycookie In reply to Faithful-Imagination [2013-02-06 07:10:59 +0000 UTC]

oh no i'm not doing real money commissions :/ i'm sorry but i didn't even know it was prohibited hahaha XDDD i hope you'll find the answer, and if you don't mind reply it? since i'm interested in the matter too =v=

Well... I know some people that are younger than 16 and sell art for $. It might be allowed on this site since it's for ALL over the world. Maybe it's just America that you aren't suppose to. But since I'm on this site my dad is cool with it if the site allows it. So I'm going to try. If they tell me to stop or found out it's wrong I will stop. But by that time I'll probably be 18.

Even een vraagje, hoe maak je een linkje naar het account van een deviantArtist in een bericht of bij de beschrijving van een deviantion? Wat je dan krijgt een een klikbare avatar van die user.

Ik ben nog zo'n newb op dat gebied. -.-

You know, there are SO many ways you hint at a character being a traitor in disguise. It can come from a look in their eyes that just seems off-putting, but no one thinks anything of it. A great way to do it is through little shows of dishonesty. You can also use a method of trickery used by witches who want to gain someone's trust for a purpose like this: tell a small truth so the future victim will later believe your big lie. Philosophy could discreetly come up in a conversation about a mission the characters just completed, and it is revealed that the betrayer has a different philosophy than the others, or, to do it more subtly, they believe the same basic things as the others, but believes them for different reasons, or they believe in the same things but differ in how those things should be done.

You could do it in a big way with a meeting between them and a shady character, or in a small way by making them seem too good, or you can do it in a very subtle way, like where all the characters are fighting for the same side, but while the others are fighting like patriots, the betrayer seems to be fighting like a mercenary, and hold mercenary beliefs, so at first they all seem the same, but then in situations where a patriot would do one thing, a mercenary would do another, and the difference begins to show.

Another way would be to show them constantly focusing their attention or desire on something they're not allowed to have. Like I watched an old black and white movie about a little 8-year-old girl that was a murderer, killing off all the adults, and at the end of the movie she really liked the bird that the nice woman from down the road who was always kind to her had, and that's how you knew she was gonna try to murder that woman at the end of the movie to get that pretty bird.

In fact, you could even put in all the hints, but still make it so the betrayer wasn't planning anything. They just had questionable morals within the friendship. And then, either they got tempted by something and gave into the temptation of betraying their friends, or they got into a fight with a friend and betrayed them out of spite.

There are SO MANY ways to do this.

I hope you actually were trying to write a character who betrays their friends, and not just using that as nothing more than an example!

Now I'm going to put a more meaningful Reply on your Profile, since I managed to get back before you got to Reply to my "ten page story" lol
*sigh*
Teenagers always write fantasy stories-*shot*
But your response you started with...
Come on! You're more creative and smart than for that to be a problem for you! Just because your story's fantasy doesn't mean you can't use any of those kinds of example elements. After listening to your last Reply on AliHutch's page where you were telling me what your story needs, I think the one I wrote pretty much does all those things. It just doesn't do them for YOUR particular story. And that's good, because I sure didn't want to write your story for you! After all, it IS your story!

Here's another relevant Daily Deviation to look at. In that story, the girl, and later the boy, want to write about fantasy things, and don't see how reality has anything to do with it, but the discoveries made in that story show that reality has tremendous use/application in fantasy, and also, since virtually all characters are either going to be human, practically human, or based on humans, being more or less human than we are, studying what makes non-fantasy works is very useful in writing good fantasy.

The general plot in that story was advancing pretty quickly, but say in that story I wrote that I wanted to eventually make "neighbor girl" a big deal. Well, between a previous description of neighbor girl that happened before the part I wrote (You know, the part where her FACE is described ) and the stuff that happened IN the story, and the thing I said might happen after the story with the two girls, and maybe granny being involved, the stage was set to gradually introduce her as an important character of conflict. When she was originally described, no one would have any clue that she was going to be trouble because the story before what I wrote you was just describing what she looked like at that she was the neighbor. No one would suspect a thing. Then after the "key scene", people might think that was trouble, but still not think anything of her in particular. THEN there's a scene after what I wrote where maybe the girlfriend talks to the neighbor and some people might suspect something bad to happen later, where others might just think that that scene is more about the feelings of the girlfriend and the troubles she's having, and how she has to overcome them, and then only later do readers all discover that the neighbor girl really was going to be trouble for the couple all along.

See?

And the scenes that I did write also set things up for something that was happening very soon, because then there was a part with the bad guys, and then the second relaxed day, and it's conflicts.

The best way to write really good fantasy is to look at reality and try to find examples of places where even thought the fantasy world is so different, things there can still follow many of the same paths or patterns reality does, but with a twist. Or you can also write a really weird story where nothing goes the way reality says it should, but in order to write a story like that well, one would need to be an absolute master of reality, so you could warp everything away from it properly and turn it all masterfully on it's head.

I came to your Profile again, and after I finished reading another comment about all the comments you leave people I just realized I'd made myself unstalkable when I sent you that YouTube link to that guy with the "Dutch accent" by "Niagara Falls" by not leaving a comment on that video.

Now that I've left a Reply on it, you can demonstrate your ultimate stalking skills by stalking me clean onto another website if you have a YouTube account and spamming me over there too, lol. Can you find it? >:3

And according to some comment on that video, apparently that guy really DOES have a Dutch accent, but he's playing with it to make it thicker. No wonder you didn't call him out on having a fake Dutch accent, if that's true.

and like a real stalker does i went to check out your comment history, and your video history. i must say, you really seem to like games hehe XD

and yes, i know he did, but actually there really are people who talk like that. we once went to london, and the irony was that our bus driver had the worst accent i've ever heard OTZ

Oop. Forgot to add something pertaining to games:
Of course I like games! Games are the single biggest source of inspiration for me making Todd & The Shining Sword! A plurality of my inspiration comes from there. If you ever see anything in comics that seems a little weird and you don't get it, it's probably a reference to a video game.

hehe okay i understand. i'm not really much of a gamer though, so i can't say much about that subject XD

ToddNTheShiningSword In reply to Mysterycookie [2013-01-20 12:17:59 +0000 UTC]

It's fine that you're not a gamer! Almost great, even, because you will allow me to have more of a non-gamer's perspective on what the game references look like. That should be useful. ish.

I was gonna leave yet another Comment on your Profile when I got this message, so I figured I'd just get this on your Profile this way then, through this reply.

I wanted to say something about Todd and Eva's race that I never said to anyone yet. First of all, I make people either "red mouths" or "pink mouths". Most people's mouths are pink inside. But Todd is a "red mouth" and I made that into a racial trait for some reason. People like that have a tongue that is literally red, and then just like everyone else, the rest of their mouth is redder still. Also, a little while ago, after looking at Todd's head for the quadrillionth time I thought about something else I heard on a TV special. It was about who visited the Americas before Columbus. They were talking about Polynesian skulls on there, and saying those people are the only people in the world whose skulls rock like that. You put a Polynesian skull on a table, and due to the shape of the head, and moreso, the jaw, the skull will rock front-to-back on the table when pushed. Well, anyways, That's a trait of the heads of Todd's race. If their skulls were placed on a table, they'd rock.
Also, you have probably noticed people with cheek bones that are more pronounced than others. You could draw Todd or Eva's cheekbone facial structure however you wanted, but if you want to be different and/or, um, right, try giving them very pronounced cheekbones that stick out farther in front than most peoples. That would definitely be a racial trait of theirs. Their people also are never really tall. They can be a little tall, and can be really short, but are never really very tall. But... that has nothing to do with things because Todd and Eva's heights are already kind of pointed out.

Those are the only distinct traits of Todd and Eva's fictional race that I could point out to you.

Mysterycookie In reply to ToddNTheShiningSword [2013-01-20 12:44:47 +0000 UTC]

hehe okay, i'll definately tell you if i encounter something that sounds weird and i don't get it XD

- ahh okay, i'll try to keep that in mind though i almost never colour anything traditionally XD

- about the head, i should do a bit of research on that then c:

- about the cheekbones, i'll keep that in mind then, i shall try to do that next time :3 i'm curious how i will end up hehe XD

- about the length, also noted, but i almost never draw fullbodies for requests haha i should do that again >.<

okey, thank you, it really helps me a lot, i got the feel i want to draw something again, but first i must finish up the piece i'm working on now ehehe =v=

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToddNTheShiningSword In reply to Mysterycookie [2013-01-20 14:02:18 +0000 UTC]

You don't have to do any research! But... then again, maybe you'd want to... but you said you were saving advanced techniques like how fat and bones make skin look and stuff for later...?
I'm curious as to how a drawing of Todd or Eva would end up looking now that you know this also. And then you still have that comment with the links in it, so you'd see their sizes there and stuff.

I have something I want to draw for you too, but first I must finish the piece I'm working on for someone else that I mentioned earlier.
