Sure. Basically I use ovals and lines to get the general pose and shape. Just use reference for body types, Because even if you wanna draw an existing character, all you have to do is draw the basic pose, and then use a picture reference to make the detail.
Example: Say I wanna draw Sakura. First I would draw a basic pose using lines (I am assuming you know about head heights, if not then here is a basic knowledge. A teen is generally 6 head heights tall, Using the head as a basic, the height of the upper torso, including neck, down to the crotch is 2 head heights, and the leg is 3, with the knee at 1 1/2) I then use shapes to flesh it out and get a general look. After which I use a picture of sakura, to get the correct thicknesses and the details of the clothes.

I hope you got all this. If not I could always do a stage by stage drawing if that would help.

Well, you can use a ruler, or the edge of a scrap piece of paper, Using your first head, measure its height/make some marks, and use that to get the heights right, light marks on the main drawing can help you keep track of where each head height ends.
