Yes, I don't usually. I do about the same thing. I have a tendency to watch lots of people and not keep up with them like I should... but alas!

What do you mean by toned down? Yeah, I imagine that it would be difficult to keep up with.

And does DA do that? Funny, see, I've never had a subscription. I'd like one simply to make my page look nicer, but I don't mind too much. Are subs worth it?

toned down...i guess i mean not as all-over-the-place? i feel like when i was on my old account i was a little more crazy, so to speak, and not as focused on my art as i'd like to be.
it is a fairly old account and i've changed a lot from when i first made it. i guess i'm trying to be more reserved on this one. i'm not too sure.

and yeah, they do. even if it's a gift sub you get messages a few weeks after it expires more or less telling you to resubscribe (they don't put is so bluntly, though).
is it worth it? depends on what you want from it. i had one for two years and i liked being able to beta test new things, and have some expanded option on the site. if you don't really care about extra modules on your page or a fancy journal layout, then it isn't really worth it.
i miss mine a little bit, but not too much. really the only things i miss are being able to add a gallery folder to my main page and the advanced critique feature.

Hm.. I would really adore if one could use layouts on deviantart like you could quizilla. What other sites are out there that allow you to do that?
