Beautiful gallery! Your portraits are so 'alive' (if that makes sense). I'm trying to dedicate more of my time to traditional art after decades of being lazy and half-hearted. Your gallery is definitely an inspiration!

Yes, it's easy for the years to slip by, as you get older time passes quicker than before, circumstances can take over and you tell yourself that you haven't the time to be creative! But if you can find a bit of time to get the paints out (or whatever medium you use) the joy that creating beautiful art brings is worth all the effort!

Yes, time speeds by scarily fast. I'll be 45 in a months time and I've got to stop dilly dallying and start focusing 100% on the creative things I love (art and writing).

The first thing to understand Emily is Salisbury is the worst place to want to exhibit. Think of the options, you've got the Library, with an upstairs gallery no-one ever visits. There's the corridors of Odstock Hospital, where many an exhibition is held, but unless you're ill or visiting someone, who else goes there? Then there's the Fisherton Mill. Great if your face fits, if you're Lord Bufton-Tufton's daughter or went to Marlborough School. If not I doubt they'd want to know! Lastly there's those two awful places in town, can't remember what they're called, is it Whitewall Gallery and Gallery 21? To me those places are a con, selling paintings that are more décor than genuine art. The sort of stuff that'll be out of fashion 5 years down the line. I want to exhibit but I'm more drawn to either doing so away from Salisbury, I'm thinking Blandford, Shaftesbury, Marlborough, or if a pop-up gallery happened in an empty shop space during the Salisbury Festival. The present state of affairs is dreadful but I'm sure a solution exists!

Have you seen a free magazine called "Evolver"? You can pick up copies in Salisbury Tourist Information Centre, the Arts Centre in Bedwin Street, and a few other places too. It's a "what's on" type of guide but is heavily focussed on the visual arts. It covers a wide area, taking in West Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, etc, and there are a lot of adverts for upcoming exhibitions over this extensive part of the south west. What's good is the adverts include images of the artwork displayed, so you can identify galleries that exhibit the sort of work you would want to show. I live in hope things will improve in Salisbury but until that time it's a case of looking further afield!

I think I may have heard of that actually, rings a bell! Thanks for the tip, I will definitely get hold of a copy and check it out. I'm not in any huge rush as I want to produce some work I'm actually proud of before I put myself out there, but I like to know what my options are for when I'm ready to try and move forward

Luckily we have escaped the floods but our house is suffering problems associated with the heavy rain.
