I'm a Chinese,and I know many Chinese "hanzi" like "饕餮"“睥睨”（They are more difficult than others）If you have interest in “hanzi” I can tell you more XD...
We have a kand of art named “书法”
It means “handwriting” different People have different style （yeah sounds like painting）
there is a job named “书法家（hanzi-artist）” in Chinese，their works are very cool！Some of them be famous（王羲之 is one of them ）If you want to see some “书法”。You can use google ， or give me your e-mail address。I can send you some work about “虎”

But you can try to write some of them（like “虎”）as sign
I think your friend will be surprise to see you can write this sign XD

you can practice with pencil if you don't write very easy【in fact we always use ball-point pen...like you writing English】

In China，There are fore special tools to “Write”【←It mean “书法”，It's different from ordinary writing...maybe means “artistic Hanzi”】
They are【 纸（like “Chinese art paper”。It's a kind of paper which is soft and thin，it Chinese name is “宣纸” ）、墨（“Chinese ink” it's a kind of ore which we can use it make ink-water。but now It's not useful for most Chinese，you can use ordinary ink which you use it in pen）、笔（It's a kind of writing brush which from China，It's Chinese name is “毛笔”，meybe you will find them not easily in your country ）、砚（It’s a receptacle to receptacle ink，you won’t use this~）、】
the most important tools are “毛笔” “墨”
but use “毛笔” to write Hanzi will be very difficult~，you can also use other tools to write Hanzi，it's also a good way to find different style。
