Hayano missed the Kono battle as he had committed suicide before it took place.
He was torn by an unresolvably conflict between his desire to fight with his ronin comrades and his need to obey his aged father’s command to remain at home to care for him.
Suicide was the only honourable way out!
Inspired by the Work of Utagawa Kuniyoshi!

As I mention in my notes, Shimamura Danjo Takanori according to Japanese folklore, drowned himself after losing when defeated at Amagaseki in 1532.
The crabs in that district are said to have since borne marks in his likeness on their shells!
This is inspired by the Work of Kuniyoshi.

I watched again this 1957 film by Akira Kurosawa which is his interpretation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
It is really powerful and inspirational and some of it was shot on the slopes of Mount Fuji.
