I'll try and teach you piano, if that's alright. Here goes:
So basically, this is a stave [link] . The top line with the treble clef is for the right hand, where the bottom one is for the left hand, yes?
There's no bars on the picture, but every bar has four beats to it, and then another one starts, but I just ignore it really, it's not insanely important.

I should probably explain the most common notes now.
[link] This is a minim. They last two beats. (Half a bar, two of these take up a whole bar)
[link] This is the crochet. They last one beat. (There are two of these per minim, and four per bar)
[link] This is a quaver. They last half a beat. (Two per crochet, four per minim, eight per bar) When there's two quavers or more they are connected like this [link]

i watched some videos yesterday so i know to open circle thing is 4 beats and one with a stem is 2 beats then with a flag is 1 beat or someting

That's actually an awesome idea! And it's cool that your friend's in a band! My music teacher is nice too, but you automatically become a favorite if you play something; like, I am allowed to do pretty much whatever when it comes to working, like I can work by myself or ask if there's something harder to do cause I find the set work too easy.
