Are your designs action figure sized?

Have you ever considered doing something by your own design? (if you haven't already)

Sorry it took me so long to respond, I haven't been on DA in a while. I think about developing my own ideas all the time I just never seen to have the time to do it.

Hey man, just putting this here to let you know I'm loving your work, escpecially the Gears stuff (as I'm a big Gear head myself)!

I also have a question though. I'm a prop builder and I'd like to use your work as a reference (planning on multiple Gears props and costumes in the near future). Are you ok with that?

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Hi Oliver.
Would love to get your input on a little problem i have this side of the world. I have had a go at trying to build my own 1 6th scale weapons but its a art on its own, and you have that talent i lack. lol
Have been looking around online for weapons for some of my sculpts and buying them online and sending them to south africa is turing into a problem. I know that a lot of work goes into these little gems but paying almost R4000 about 400 US dollers for a 1 6th beretta to be sent to me seems a bit much. any advice? I love your work and would rather pay a real artist for a cast of there work then feeding the machine.
Thanks and hope you can help
Hein

Sorry for the late response I haven't checked DA in a few days. Thanks for the compliment, always nice to hear someone like the work. Honestly for building a beretta from scratch I would charge $400 or $500 too. Lot of switches on a beretta a true pain in the ass to build, but a fine gun. I have made a few all in different sizes and might have a mold laying around. I know you said 1/6 scale but its never the same from one sculpt to the next so send me an over all length for the gun and if i have something that matches I'll let you know.
Oliver

I have to ask, have you ever made a full scale version of anything? Seems like a hell of a lot of people would love props with this kind of detail!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OliverBrig In reply to weird-coma [2012-09-30 03:47:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the compliment I have, but it takes a lot of time large or small scale so the cost is pretty high if someone is a collector or a fan. Almost everything on my site was made for a company with a production budget because they will make money on what I make them. That said I'll make anything for anyone as long as they realize it might take two weeks or more to build a gun with that much detail.

OliverBrig In reply to jashawk [2012-08-30 01:55:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks f the compliment, glad you like the work. Most of what is in my gallery isn't clay I use a lot of modeling board and styrene or ABS plastic. The gray primer makes it look like clay but I could never pull that kind of detail in clay or wax. I do a lot of work on my lathe or mill so that helps with the crisp lines. I looked at your gallery as well, great work man. You combined a robot with my favorite animal in 101 peanuts so you have a new fan

OliverBrig In reply to BinaryMouse [2012-02-22 17:21:16 +0000 UTC]

Well Ultron and Ironman are mostly clay. The clockwork robots are a mix of clay and plastic. The other stuff is styrene plastic, acrylic and modeling board nothing on my sight is digital (though I am learning, just not good enough to post yet) Everything is the same color gray because I prime it with auto body primer before taking pictures so the models are not five different colors from the different materials.

Awesome work, added you to my watch list.
The detail and smoothness on your work is amazing, gotta admire that.
I sometimes sculpt small stuff (sculpey, like 5,5" figures or so) but they look like blunt pieces made by a kid when compared to work like yours.
Sometimes I think I choose the wrong career (architecture) =/

Keep up the good work!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OliverBrig In reply to Gunnut51 [2011-09-12 23:26:44 +0000 UTC]

Um, I suck at scale they fit a twelve inch figure. Most of what is on my site I make for toy companies so I can't sell them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Gunnut51 In reply to OliverBrig [2011-09-12 23:37:36 +0000 UTC]

Not to rub it in (since I can't do what you do), but that would be 1:6 scale. The 1:18 would be the G.I Joe ARAH sized figures.

The ones with the flowing capes, somehow when I do one it cracks on me and it just ruins the mood and I stop doing it.

Rene-L In reply to OliverBrig [2011-09-05 20:58:07 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I was researching sculpts and I liked your gallery and another one where it had the dementors from Harry Potter and remember I always have trouble with the flowing capes or hair, even fingers in mu figures get cracked and it is disappointing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OliverBrig In reply to Rene-L [2011-09-06 16:17:52 +0000 UTC]

No problem,I did get a tip from a friend who is a far better suulptor than I am. For capes my friend told me to start with sheet wax to get the shape you want and then coat it with ta harder wax to give it detail as the sheet wax is soft. I've never tried sculpting hair so I've got nothing there, but I use wire armatures for fingers and it works pretty well.
