hi^^ i'm one of rejektedangel's friends, and she told me that you originally had thought about majoring in journalism. i was just wondering if you had gone to any of the classes, and, if you had, what were they like? because, you see, i want to be a journalist or writer when i get into college

Hi! ^^ I did major in Journalism, and probably would have stayed in it had circumstantial things not come up. I only had one journalism class, but it was VERY interesting. It was all about the journalistic world, the mega-corporations, the introduction of the internet, that kind of thing. The awesomeness of a class is dependent mostly on the professor however, at least in my experience. From what I understand, the journalism world is shaky at the moment; no one has figured out how to turn a profit online, but the news sources have no choice but to post their work there. And no, contrary to popular belief, ads do not support everything. Print journalism should be expected to almost completely disappear in the next few years, since no one reads print anymore. It's a world of uncertainty, but in a good way. It means new kids coming into it get to be there as the world is changing--you know, you get to be that old geezer that can say, "I worked there from day one--literally."

wow...that's a lot to digest, but i see where you're coming from with the internet idea. i always thought that it mattered greatly who the teacher was and how they taught. even in middle school, the teachers can be a drag. so i'm concluding from what you said about the print journalism is that in the next couple of years, journalists won't be like they were in the olden days, where they actually went out and talked to people about the story, but that now journalists will be getting all their information from the internet and online interviews. is that right? ha ha. that'll be interesting to say that to my grandchildren someday. i'll feel like a hero

Well interviews will still be conducted but it will probably not be PRINTED.

What would you want to write?

well see, i've already kind of gotten this book started and i really want to continue it, but i've just...lost interest in the characters. i know i could always introduce new characters, but i don't know, i just don't find the story interesting anymore. it was a made up story about this chick i made up and she meets this guy but they can't be with each other because the girl has to leave the town they live in to go to some other town, and that's basically where it stops...pretty lame i know, but it was based off the anime i was obsessed with at the time, Naruto. but now i'm over Naruto and the story's dull -_-

Trust me--if the story bores you, move on. I write, though I don't post anything beyond poetry and short stories on DA, and I'm deep into my first novel. There are a bajillion story ideas, and writing a book is hard enough without writing about something you want to write about. If you want writing tips, I'll pass some on, but I don't want to give advice where it's not wanted. How many pages was this Naruto-based story?

advice would be AMAZING!! [and greatly needed.] i'm pretty sure i had over 80 pages in my Naruto story, but as i said before, it leaves off at a really boring part.

My first thing is...go to Walgreens/Target/Walmart/whatever and get a small notebook, and a bunch of pens. And keep them with you every day, all day, and every time something cool happens, or someone says something interesting, or a cool looking person comes by, write it down. It's a good way to collect ideas, and stories are bound to come from it.
Also, try to write every day. Even if it's just a paragraph or a page, it's good to start training your brain. If you aren't working out a project, there are all kinds of "generators" (my favorite is this one: [link] ) that will provide prompts, and then you can give yourself either a time or page limit to write for the day, and try to fill that prompt. It's quite fun.
How old are you, anyways?

well, i had a little notebook for a while, but then i kind of just stopped writing in it. that's actually a really good idea, with writing down the little ideas that i get...i might have to try that. i was writing every day for a little while there, but then, as i've said many times, i got bored. [as you can probably tell, i don't have that great of a will-power.] hmmm, i'll have to check out that generator sometime. thanks and to answer your question about how old i am, i'm 14 and in the 8th grade. ^^ [going to turn 15 in December.]

You sounded young, which is GREAT for a writer. A lot of writers don't get serious until middle age or so, and so have less time to hone their craft. Us younglings though have nothing but time. And I will say--writing is hard. It is going to be boring at times, especially in the heart of the novel when the end is nowhere near but you're too heavily invested to back out. It'll pro'lly be good for you, because you'll have to get more will-power. I did the writing down every idea thing a few months ago, and now I have more characters and ideas than I have time for! But yeah, the writing thing is fun...do you still have the Naruto story hanging around?

BTW, I started working on making changes to that story you read over for me. I've had a pretty dyslexic week or so, and today has been a very "blugh" kind of day. I entertained myself with a little trick on PhotoShop (an "Oooh, shiny!" moment), but now that that's over with, I'll try to get back on track with my writing.

I won't have time today to look at everything you wrote, but I definitely will read every word!
Now, I'm off to chill with my g/f, so, ttyl!

I'm trying to get to reading everything you wrote. I'm also working on making edits to CyberPrep. It's a little challenging (and fun), but I really appreciate your insight.
BTW, thanks so much for the 's on Loom Fruit and CyberPrep!
