haha, you havn't experienced NY state tests. In 8th grade we have 4 state tests i believe, and then we start having regents tests in every core class (math/sci/hist/english/language) up till senior year (more state tests! woooo!! go NY. >_>
we don't have HS proficiancies, the regents are basically proficiency tests for each class. Don't pass the regents, you gotta take it over again. Even if you have a 100 average, you still get an F in the class. O_o

dude we started standardized tests in 3rd/4th grade, too.
and it altnernated years until 5th or 6th, when we had to take it EVERY year after that.
then came the GEPA.
and now the HSPA's.
bullshitttttttttttt.
but yours are more of a pain in the ass it sounds.
i just hate standardized tests that are like cake for our school because the slow people in south jersey can't handle variables.

well, i guess you could label a story as creative or not creative, but you can't measure a creativity level. Plus, a more creative writing sample may be sly, and a reader may not "get" it, and the student may get a bad grade when they really deserve a high grade. >_> That would piss me off.
