Tutorial? Geez I've never thought about doing anything like that before. I don't really have time at the moment but it's definitely something I'll consider for the future
In the meantime, a quick tip: start on tinted paper (or a coloured layer if you're in Photoshop), this automatically takes care of all your midtones, then just add the shadows and highlights.
Also, squint your eyes while looking at your subject, you get a better idea of the the overall light values.
