sure :) (Smile) ... start with sketching the face (not in detail!) make sure you get the proportions right.... holding it up side down may help you discover errors....
then work it out bit by bit... notice the shadows.. and the line between lights and shadows....
further more.. a tip on long term... try to work on one thing for a while.. in which I mean work on it during the drawing of a couple of portraits...
I did that too.. and then you'll slowly work to a better level.. if you don't know what to work on .. think about what you find the hardest to draw.. like the nose.. or the hair.. and work on that in a couple of portraits..
